BAM (Bianca and MAggie)

ANd NEW!!!!!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

(Soap Opera Digest - February 4, 2003)

If Elizabeth Hendrickson had her druthers, her character would cross paths much more frequently with Jill Larson's Opal. "Jill is so intelligent, so wonderful and her daughter [Anna-Ming] is the most adorable little girl in the world," the actress bubbles. "She's 6 going on like, 22. The things that come out of that young girl's mouth, I am blown away by. She's always running around the studio in her mother's shoes. And the other day, she had on Finola Hughes's big, black, spike-heeled boots, while running around and wanting to have her hair done. She's just irresistible!"

Hit..Not that there's anything wrong with that on AMC

(feb. 4, 2003)

Everyone has heard the four most dreaded words ("let's just be friends"), so viewers could easily empathize with Bianca's broken heart when Maggie finally rebuffed her on Jan. 6.

Maggie suggested the pair hang out, and Bianca impulsively decided to let her feelings hang out. "Are you asking me on a date?" Desperately clenching Maggie's hand, Bianca begged, "I need to know what we are."

The script was sensitive, but more importantly, treated this unrequited love like any other (read: straight) romance: one party unwilling to commit, the other desperate to do so. Unfortunately, that script pointedly avoided the word lesbian as well as any real physical contact.

Throughout their confrontation, Eden Riegel's Bianca was animated, her hands flailing haphazardly. Elizabeth Hendrickson's Maggie was withdrawn, her expression flat. Hendrickson imbued Maggie with just as much longing as Bianca, but toward a different goal: She wanted to separate herself from her twin, not just as a person but in her sexual identity. Maggie was acting just like a guy - evasive, foot-shuffling, slightly jokey, unable to find the right words. Finally she just said it, plaintively: "Bianca, I love you, I really do...but I'm into guys."

Bianca was stunned but silent; she stared in disbelief and blinked her wounded eyes. Then, with a slight head shake she croaked "OK," and forced a grin. "Well, sounds like an answer, not a question."

Apologetic, Maggie offered her support, but Bianca insisted she "wants what every girl wants - y'know, romance, a lover."

She wanted to know where Maggie stood, and her efforts reminded everyone of the adage: "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it." The many fans who wanted a Bianca/Maggie relationship (or at least some plot movement) may not have gotten what they wanted, but the performances - which captured the uniquely awkward agony and utter embarrassment of unrequited love - were all fans could have asked for.

BAM! Fans Lobby for Romance!

(Soaps In Depth - February 4, 2003)

Fans behind the BAM (Bianca and Maggie) campaign, which hopes to see the AMC pair become more than friends, are sending out catchy videos, "Love is..BAM!" T-shirts and white roses symbolic of the one Maggie once gave Bianca. "We want the obvious: a romance between Bianca and Maggie," says the group. Although BAM claims hooking up the pair - in time for Valentine's Day, ideally - "would give [AMC] the type of romance and societal issue" it has featured in the past, BAM may have hit too late; on January 6, Bianca and Maggie agreed to remain "best friends". And for BAM, that's a bummer.

Fitting Image

(Soap Opera Digest - December 3, 2002)

"I try to eat well, I really, really do, but I'm not very good", admits Elizabeth Hendrickson. "I try to eat well because I have very high cholesterol. And it's genetic. I'm trying not to take the medicine, so I'm trying to do it on my own, but it's hard. I walk a lot now...I like to walk to work, which is close to two miles. And I take my Pilates and dance classes and do a lot of ab work and hip-hop classes."

Digest: How do you motivate yourself when you don't feel like working out?

EH: I have a lot of trouble getting myself up and out, but I have two close friends who also have the same problems, so we try to motivate each other. We drag each other out of the apartment, that's how we get it done.

Digest: What kind of diet do you follow because of the high cholesterol?

EH: I just stay away from cheese. It's funny because I stay away from cheese and I recently found out that I'm lactose intolerant, so now when I do eat cheese, I get quite sick. I can have a little...A slice of pizza or something usually upsets my stomach, but sometimes you just have to do it, you know? You can't give up pizza. How can you give up pizza?

Digest: Any weaknesses?

EH: I've never had much of a sweet tooth, but these past few months, I've wanted cakes and cookies and chocolate and ice cream.

Digest: How did you discover Pilates?

EH: I go to Broadway Dance Center and my friend took a Pilates class...My class was going on at the same time as her class. I popped my head through the window to look at what this class was all about and it looked like a good workout and a lot of fun. The good thing about it is [that it focuses on] strengthening and toning and it's great for dancers. Because I've been dancing for a long time - but I've been slacking off these past couple of years - I've had to build my body back to where it used to be. I can't hold my leg up [as high] anymore, so I started doing it again and it really, really helps. It's strengthening and toning without bulking up...And you don't have to get up off the floor. You just lie there. There's nothing like lying down and working out.
