The 809th Engineer Battalion was one of two battalions assigned
under the 44th Engineer Group, Nakhorn Ratchasima (Korat), Thailand. The second being the 538th located near Sattahip, Thailand.
The 809th was relocated from Okinawa to Phanom Sarakam March 24, 1962. It was deactivated Febuary 3, 1971 at Camp Ruam Chit Chai, Sakon Nakon, Thailand.
In 1968 the authorized strength was 905.

In August 1969 (my time of assignment) the Battalion Headquartes, HQ Company, A Company, and C Company were located at Camp Ruam Chit Chai outside Sahon Nakon in northeast Thailand about 50 KM west of the Loas boder.
B Company was based at Nakon Phanom, on the Loas border, about 50 KM east of Sakon Nakon.
D Company was based midway between Sakon Nakon and Nakon Phanom just east of a small village called Ku Su Mon.
