Welcome to the Cheatham County Probation Department. We are located in Ashland City, Tennessee. We are the probation department for the Cheatham County General Sessions Court and the Ashland City Municipal Court. The department consists of two probation officers and one part-time administrative assistant. The department works closely with local law enforcement agencies to insure the safety of the local community. A large portion of our probationers are D.U.I. offenders and drug offenders. We handle only misdemeanor cases which are adjudicated out of the general sessions court and the municipal court.
We currently have two officers assigned to our department. One officer handles a caseload which consists of offenders who are convicted of D.U.I. and other drug and alcohol related offenses. The duties of this officer are to conduct weekly, bi-weekly or monthly office visits. In addition to these tasks this officer also conducts home visits of offenders to ensure that the probationer is adhering to the rules of probation. During a home visit the officer may administer drug screens in the field, conduct searches of the residence for alcohol and/ or other items which may be considered contraband to an offender on probation. The probation officer also may serve violation of probation warrants with the assistance of local law enforcement. This officer is supported and accompanied by local law enforcement during home visits to insure the safety of the officer.
The remainder of offenders on probation are classified as standard probation cases. This officer is responsible for supervising offenders who have been convicted of drugs, alcohol, theft, domestic violence and various other offenses which are adjudicated by the general sessions and the municipal courts.
Both officers are responsible for covering the Cheatham County General Sessions Court and the Ashland City Municipal Court.
The department is under the jurisdiction and funded by the local county and Ashland City Municipal governments. The General Sessions Judge oversees all operations of the department. The department is contracted out to oversee the probation duties of the Ashland City Municipal Court. These duties are overseen by the Ashland City Municipal Court Judge.
