WIMBLEDON NEWS 2000
WOW!
Jelena is back with avengence! I must apologise for my delay in updating this page. This is not due to lack of reports from Alain and team, just down to sheer laziness on my behalf. Sorry!
So. Wimbledon 2000. What a run for Jelena this year. She defeated German player Arn in straight sets 6-1; 7-6. Next she met Spanish Leon Garcia and again won 7-6; 6-1.
Her next victim was the American Rippner. Jelena cruised past her in a 6-2; 6-1 victory. Her game versus the massive Serna proved no problem to the young Australian. A 6-3; 6-2 victory led her into the semi finals. Down to the last four, it was unfortunate that Jelena was drawn to meet the defending champion of 1999, Lindsay Davenport.
This of course, meant a Williams sister semi final, which Venus proved to be the stronger in a 6-4; 7-6 victory.
As I write this, the Dokic-Davenport game is in progress. Davenport took the first set 6-4.
Oh dear, its all over after only 51 minutes. 6-4; 6-2 to Davenport.

Hey, I just wanted to give you Jelena's rankings, in singles she went back
to #41 (she was #37 last week) and in doubles, she is now #103 in the world.
In a recent Wimbledon interview Jelena emphasized that she felt she was under no pressure to win, despite her win over Hingis. She said that it was "definitely easier to play a seed because there is less pressure on her". She said that after her match with Pierce, her confidence was up and although she thinks that although her matches could go in favour of her opposition, she would "hopefully come through". She said that even at the quarter finals stage, she was not nervous she would just go out and play tennis.
This shows the confidence and grace of a girl destined to be the future world number one! While Dokic is quick to mention how great Steffi Graf is, she appears to be extremely naive towards her own amazing ability.
