Mid-South VHPA, Meeting Minutes 23 Jan 10
The meeting was called to order by President Pete Norman
Members present: Pete Norman (President), Chris Horton, Ken Culwell, Rhea Rippey, Danny Cox (Treasurer), Bob Colson, and Ross Rainwater (secretary).
Secretary: Minutes of the previous meeting have been online since our last meeting. Approved.
Treasurer: Submitted and approved.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
o The meeting room had a big-screen monitor on the wall to which Chris Horton had connected our chapter website page. The "In Memoriam" portion honoring our late comrade-in-arms and founder of MSVHPA, Mike Haley, was presented as a reminder that we are a "last man" organization. The chapter provided five pallbearers for Mike's services: Ken Cullwell, Bill Hartbarger, Chris Horton, Jim Clark, and Ross Rainwater. The sixth pallbearer was Jerry Dewitt, TNARGN retired CW5, who had flown with Mike in the Guard. Mike had requested his pallbearers be helicopter pilots.
o Chapter Viability: The primary purpose of this meeting was to review the history of the chapter as far as activities, which have been low in recent years, and decide whether to continue as a chapter or dissolve.
Concensus: We will continue with an eye toward at least two activities per year. Marching in the Nashville Veterans Day Parade and a luncheon afterward will be one. The other will be held in the May/June period, with an eye to attending activities or events at Ft. Campbell, which has been very hospitable to us. Ken Cullwell will monitor upcoming events at Ft. Campbell.
Additionally, since AAAA ("Quad A") has a major convention and hardware display at the Opryland Hotel about every three years, to which we can gain admittance, that may be one of the activities that year, or an extra one.
o Wounded Warrior Support. It was moved, seconded, and approved to support programs at Ft. Campbell on behalf of their wounded warriors. We will donate $1,000. Ken Cullwell will coordinate with the program and provide our treasurer with details the enable our donation.
o Election of officers. By unanimous vote the following members were elected:
o Board Members: In addition to the officers, Rhea Rippey, Chris Horton, and Ken Culwell will join the board.
