The objective of PRESTO was to both race and cruise on the local lake. The 525 is a compromise where she is basically a race machine with minimal amenities for over-nighting. When it comes to racing, she is a forgiving boat with a wide window or slot for trim. This is her page:

Fall 98
Started new job as a Supplier Quality Engineer for TRW.

Requirements of the job were to be at suppliers 4 days a week. This would mean :
Monday meeting and leave,
return late Friday.

Weekend: Recap  for the next week.

On the road again,,,  On the road again,,, On the road again,,,
On the road again,,, Continued as an SQE until I was able to transfer to the Engineering Department.  This reduced the travel requirements and allowed for a little free time to go out and have some fun.
Was able to campaign the boat in the Fall Series of 1999.
Decided to return to school, this time to UT. Between travel for work and school I missed enough races not to qualify for the Fall Series. Midterms came before sailing, must do something about priorities. Cramming pays off, with good grades.
2001  begins with making a few races in the spring. Missed enough to not qualify for the series. Took a full load at school that took a toll on free time and sanity. Out of town for the Commodores Cup. They had light air for Saturday, canceled a couple races for total lack of air. Sunday  cut the racing short do to excessive heavy air, over 35 knots . If you don't like the weather, just wait a few hours. East Tennessee usually has light and variable weather which rewards teams that monitor the wind shifts. Occasionally it just rewards the lucky when a puff comes through. Fall 2001 was great weather for sailing. Made it to a few races to terrorize the fleet. Missed enough races not to qualify for the series.
Did a little maintenance scrubbing the top-side and the bottom. We get a thick green slime coat that quickly forms on the bottom. This is true regardless of type of bottom paint.
Multi -variable calculus came first. sailed a little but did not sail enough of the races to qualify. I was able to spend a little time making a berth extender for the V-berth.  VBerth Extender Check out the V-Berth extender in the "Interiors Restoration" section of the site.
FALL SERIES

PRESTO Takes a Third

Presto just qualified for the fall series.

Little time for sailing with school( Statics and Physics) and work, managed to rebuild the rudder over the summer, Rudder Fairing
The high speed shimmy is gone

COMMODORES CUP REGATTA,

PRESTO takes a THIRD.

Handicap was lowered to where I was afraid that Presto would not be competive. We were for the Spring season, but not for the Commodores Cup. About 5 seconds seperated Presto with spinnaker from a Oday 28 without on corrected time. I even tried reaching to 40 degrees with the spinnaker up in light air, without success.

FALL SERIES

I crewed on NARVINA, NARVINA takes a FIRST for the FAll Series.  Presto's handicap was lowered to a non competitive level for the Fall series.

SCHRADER REGATTA

I crewed on NARVINA, NARVINA takes a FIRST for the Schrader Cup.

FALL SERIES

SPRING SERIES

Campained SilverSwan for the Spring Series. Lower handicap proves too much of a challenge. Out of the running, but I have an idea. If the winds are light, Presto would be ideal for the Commodores Cup. Only problem is that these races also count for the spring series. May not have enough races with Silver Swan to qualify.

SCHRADER REGATTA

Handicap still too much to overcome. SilverSwan does not place in the Schrader Cup.

Started the Fall Season of Overnighters on the lake. We had a great turnout and experienced the finer side of cruising and eating.
