James Clay MCCARTER and Mary Ann
"Polly" SISCO
Married 2 November 1866, Jackson County, Tn.
at the home of her parents John and Elizabeth Riley Sisco on
Riley Creek by the Reverand Witte. James was the son of James
Colon McCarter (b. cir 1800) and Catherine Emry (b. cir 1800) who
came to Jackson County, Tennessee around 1860 from Bledsoe
County, Tennessee. James served with Co. "B" 8th
Regiment Tennessee Mounted Volunteers having enlisted on the 15th
day of January 1865 in Carthage, Tennessee. James and Polly moved
to the Leonard Community of Clay County shortly after the birth
of their youngest son William. All of their children were born on
Riley Creek in Jackson County, Tn.
- James Clay McCarter was born 22 Feb 1841 in
Bledsoe County, Tn. He died on 1 Jun 1914 at his home in
Clay County, Tn. Buried at the Whitley Cemetery in Red
Boiling Springs, Macon County, Tn.
- Mary Ann "Polly" Sisco was born 26 Nov
1842 in Jackson County, Tn. She died 11 May 1930 at her
home in Clay County, Tn. She is also buried in the
Whitley Cemetery.

- "infant" It is not known if this child
were male or female, all that is known is that in the
1900 Clay County, Tn Census Polly is listed as having one
child dead. All other children are accounted for,
therefore it is assumed that there was at least one
infant death which is not uncommon. Although, I cannot
say for certain, I assume that the grave amongst those of
the McCarter family in the Whitley Cemetery, in Red
Boiling Springs, Tn just might be the grave of this
child.
