These .AVI files
used to be stored over at Driveway.com, but Driveway got a little persnickity
so I'm in the process of moving the files over to Angelfire. Below you'll
find a simple description of the file, the size, and sometimes (when I
remember) the length of the clip. As always I caution the viewer to keep
in mind two things: that I am not a professional when it comes to
this and these files are not the best quality when it comes to sound and
vision.
Russell was named Best Actor by the BFCA for his masterful portrayal of Maximus in the movie Gladiator. Access Hollywood had a short (very short) clip of Russ accepting the award and the beginnings of his speech. This file is only 406k in size and I think all of 7 seconds long. I told you it was short.
When that cult
classic (and sorely missed by me) show MST3K was doing a special on the
1997 Academy Award nominated films, they did a short homage to Russell's
phenomenal film L.A. Confidential. This file is (gulp) 3 MB in size
and around 1 min. 12 sec. in duration.
Back at the 2000 MTV
Movie Awards, the creators of South Park brought a short clip of their show
vs Gladiator. The clip lasts a whole 2 minutes, but at the price of 4.6 MB!
This is a short segment of Russell's appearance on Good Morning America when he was promoting his future box office hit Gladiator. Don't worry, it's not the entire interview with Diane Sawyer. Man, that would be a huge file! Instead this is the punchline to an anectdote Russell is telling Diane concerning the making of the film. He does this really funny Monty Python-like voice. The punchline runs about 30 seconds more or less and the file size is one of my smaller ones at 1.11 Megs.
Access Hollywood had a very short snippet of Russell's band Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts in their video Things Have Got To Change. At the beginning of the clip you'll hear Russell's reply to a reporter asking him for a synopsis of his film Proof Of Life, then it segways into the video, which unfortunately has a woman talking over the music.. The clip is less than 30 seconds long, and I've totally forgotten how large it is, but it's less than 2 MB.
During the award ceremony,
Russell did a spectacular job introducing his nominated film Gladiator (even though
no one from the flick got an award.) This is pretty huge at 2.47 MB and runs less than a
minute, but it's worth it for the final line.
While attending the
2001 Oscar Luncheon, Russell met the press and had this to say about the FBI and
the plot to kidnap him. It's way big at 1.12 MB for only 15 seconds or so..
At a party after WINNING
the Oscar for Best Actor, Russell had an interview with GMA's Joel Siegel. The file is over 5 MBs
(which is smaller than what the file size was originally) but at least it runs 3 1/2 minutes and
you can hear what Russell's saying, even though the picture ain't that grand.
Bad sound, poor picture quality,
and a running time of only 18 seconds, but it shows a exuberant Crowe playing around with his
OSCAR before leaving to go work on A Beautiful Mind.
For once I believe I've done something right. This is an .mp3 file of Russell's speech from the Oscars, from "Whuh!" to "Thank you very much." It's 2.56 MB in size and runs about 2 minutes. Best of all, if you have a CD burner, you can now immortalize his speech to disc and listen to him wherever you want.
In his WWII-era movie For The Moment, Russell's character, "Lachlan", recites a poem to his lady love. You'll hear her laugh once. They are sitting on the side of a hill, so you'll hear nature sounds as well. This is an .mp3 of this recital of High Flight by John Magee, Jr. I recorded it at only 96 kbps in order to shrink the file size down to around 884 kb, but don't worry, it still sounds good. It runs 1 min. 15 sec. long.
E! Entertainment Televsion had a profile on Russell that included many early interviews. On one television appearance, Russell's talking about being arrested while he was in Romper Stomper skinhead costume. He looked at the camera and said to the cop who had arrested him (whever he may be) this little sound bite. I've recorded it in easy .WAV format. It's about 172 kb and lasts a millisecond it seems.
On August 16, 2001, Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts (Russell's band) performed on the American
program The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The song is off their CD Bastard Life Or Clarity.
I claim no state-of-the-art recording equipment, but this'll give you an idea of what they sounded like.
It's in mp3 format, around 4.7 MB in size. It was recorded at 160 kbps 44 khz (for those of you who
care) and runs 3 minutes 58 seconds.
Long before he knew any better, Russell went by the handle of Russ Le Roq. One of his first recordings was this
little ditty. And little it is. I got it from the MSNBC Headliners & Legends show on Russell. It lasts around
9 - 10 seconds long. I've put it in .WAV format. The quality from the TV show wasn't in pristine shape, so this sound bite will sound a bit rough as well.
Also from the Headliners & Legends show is a sound bite from this very 80's song. By this time Russell had expanded
to become Russ Le Roq and The Romantics. It also is around 10 seconds long, in .WAV format, and not good quality.
During the April 3, 2002, show of South Park, the little brats -- er, tykes were watching the HBC network's The Russell Crowe Show. Here's the theme song. In order to make a faster upload, I recorded this at the low! low! low! kbps of 64.
