Animals of Gor

FLEER: A large, hook-billed bird which hunts at night. Served like vulo.

GOLDEN BEETLE: An insect, roughly the size of a rhinoceros, which lives in the caverns below the Nest of the Priest-Kings in the Sardar Mountains; its prey is the Priest-Kings them-selves.

HERLIT: A Gorean eagle, having a wingspan of 6-8 feet; is carnivorous, and has yellow feathers tipped with black; also called 'Sun-Striker' or 'out-of-the-sun-it-strikes', from its habit of striking with the sun above and behind it; inhabits the Barrens.

HITH: A huge python-like snake.

KAIILA: Resembling a velociraptor, standing 20-22 hands high, covered with a silken fur. The eyes are triple lidded against the sand storms of the desert regions. They are capable of covering 600 pasangs (7/10 of a mile = 1 pasang) in a day. They are vicious from birth, deadly, sleek, carniverous and fast.

KAILIAUK: A stocky ruminant, tawny with red and brown markings on haunches, having 3 horns; stands 20-25 hands at the shoulder

LARL: A large (7 ft. at shoulder) feline, tawny red or black in color, the rarest being white, having a black mane; carnivorous; similar to a lion. Often caught for their luxurious furs.

MARSH SHARK: A deadly fresh water hunter of the Gorean marshes, similar in shape to the shark of earth.

OST: A tiny snake, about 12" long, bright orange in color; its venom causes extremely painful death within seconds; the ost of the rainforests inland of Schendi are red with black stripes

QUALA: A small, dun-colored, 3-toed mammal with a stiff, brushy mane of black hair; pl. qualae

RIVER SHARK: A narrow, black, vicious, carnivorous fish with a triangular dorsal fin, which inhabits the rivers of Gor.

SLEEN: The deadly hunting "dog" of Gor. They are a cross between a weasel and a Komodo dragon. The sleen is a ferocious feline, some 20 feet long, having 6 legs and 2 rows of teethfurred, with fangs that drip a deadly poison.

They are pack animals and cared for only by thier Masters so that they are not befriended by the slave who may try to escape. They can track a trail days old as if it were fresh, rending and killing the object of the hunt.

There are four types: the prairie sleen, which is tawny; the forest sleen, which is black or brown; the aquatic sea sleen; and the white snow sleen. They can be domesticated for herding and tracking.

SLIME WORM: A long, slow, blind worm which inhabits the caverns below the Nest in the Sardar; scavenges the remains of the Golden Beetles kills.

TAMBER GULF OYSTERS: From the Tamber Gulf, Tamber Gulf Oysters are used for food. Oysters are served raw or baked.

TARN: Enormous relatives of the earth Golden eagle..some with a 50' wing span..they are bred in 2 types:

War Tarns- heavier but agile, trained to aid in battle.

Racing Tarns- slender, lighter birds bred for speed and endurance. Racing Tarns are also used by messengers to go from one city-state to another.

TARSK: Similar to the earth pig in form and ecological niche, they are not a favored food, being carrion eaters, but, are a staple among the rence growers.

THALARION: Heavy, but swift, these beast range nearly 40 hands in height. They are warm blooded reptiles, used in battle as shock troops. There is a smaller bred cousin as a draft animal on Gor.

The Marsh Thalarion is not domesticated, but a vicious and voracious hunter.

TUMITS: A large carniverous bird of the plains, is hunted and eaten by the Nomadic people of Gor. Traditionally hunted with bolos the sport lies in wether you or the bird gets to eat that night.

URT: Resembling a reptilian rat, the size of a terrier. A small, silken-furred rodent akin to the Earth rat; it has three rows of teeth, two tusks, and two horns.

VART: A blind, bat-like flying rodent, about the size of a small dog.

VERR: A mountain goat indigenous to the Voltai Mountains; wild, agile, ill-tempered, with long hair and spiraling horns; source of a form of wool; it milk is potable, as well as being used for cheese

VOSK CARP: Vosk carp is a carp fish from the river Vosk - served baked, fried, or broiled.

VOSK SORP: A giant clam that thrives in the seas and Marshes of Gor...the shell of which is large enough to be used as a throne.

WINGFISH (Cosian): The Cosian Wingfish is called so for it's ability to fly and hunt above the waters of Thassa for short distances. It's livers are considered a delicacy.

WINGFISH: The wingfish is a tiny blue salt-water fish with 4 poisonou spines on its dorsal fin. It is found in the waters off Port Kar. Its liver is considered a delicacy.
