Foods of Gor
SA-TASSNA (noun; lit. 'life-mother'): meat; food in general
BOSK: This animal closely resembles a Yak of Urth, used for many things on Gor. Can be served
roasted and sliced, or as steaks. The milk of the bosk is very drinkable and can be used to
make cheese and churned for butter. "A large, shaggy, long-horned bovine similar to
Urth's ox, providing food, leather and many other needs. The meat may be roasted, broiled,
boiled, stewed, fried, or dried." (book 4 -Nomads Of Gor - page 4)
BOSK CHEESE: Made from the milk of the Bosk. Pressed from the milk, they are sharp in taste
and travel well, resisting molds in thier hard rinds.
BUTTER: Churned from the milk of the Bosk or the Verr.
CELANE MELON: a melon akin to Urth's honeydew.
DATES: These come from the City of Tor.
FLEER: A large, hook-billed bird which hunts at night. Served like vulo.
KATCH: Foliated leaf vegetable. (Book 10 - Tribesmen of Gor - page 37)
KES: A shrub whose salty, blue secondary roots are a main ingredient in sullage
KORT: a rinded fruit of the Tahari; served sliced with melted cheese and nutmeg.
"A large, brownish-skinned, thick-rinded, sphere -shaped vegetable - usually 6" in width.
The interior is yellowish and fibrous, and heavily seeded." pg. 37 of Tribesmen of Gor(book 10)
nLARMA: A sweet fruit. It is served sliced. A succulent fruit, rather like an apple;
sometimes sliced and fried, and served with browned-honey sauce.
Offering a larma, real or imagined, by a slavegirl to her Master is a silent plea for the
girl to be raped.
OLIVES: These are commonly from the City of Tor. (referred to as Torian Olives.
PARSIT FISH: Slender, striped.
PEAS: These are mentioned as a menu item, but not described.
RAM-BERRIES: ram-berries (noun): small, succulent berries
REDFRUIT: similar in flesh and taste to apples of earth origins
RED OLIVES: These come from the groves of Tyros.
RENCE: A water plant, the grain is eaten, the stems harvested and pressed into paper or
woven into cloth. The grain may be boiled or ground into a paste and sweetened and fried
into a pancake.
SALT THASSA FISH: is just that, a small fish from the gleaming Thassa. It is served baked
or broiled.
SA-TARNA: A grain, yellow in color. It is a staple of Gor. It is brewed into Paga. It is
also ground and used to bake the Sa-Tarna Bread that is a staple food at every Gorean meal.
SA-TARNA BREAD: Round, yellow, flat loafs of baked sa-tarna meal. A hearty staple of life,
and great for soaking up spilt paga. It is marked, before baking, into six sections.
SLAVE PORRIDGE: A cold, unsweetened mixture of water and Sa-Tarna meal, on which slaves are
fed. Also called: Sa-Tarna Gruel. Bond-maid gruel or just slave porridge.
SUL: golden brown. Starchy. Tuberous root of the Sul Plant (not unlike the potato on Earth.
Can be distilled into the drink called sul-paga.
SULLAGE: a soup made prinicipally from suls, tur-pah, and kes, along with whatever else may
be handy
SWEETROCK: (Gorean Sugar) 2 varities are commonly used, the Red Sugar and the Yellow sugar.
It is believed that the Red Sugar is made from fruits and the Yellow Sugar from the juices of
crushed cane stalks.
TABUK: Swift gazelle like animals known for their sweet meat and speed. The Tabuk is generally
served roasted.
TA-GRAPES: Big, sweet and seedless. Imported from the fabled hillside vineyards of Tyros,
ally to Cos.
TARSK: This meat is roasted. On way to prepare it is stuffed with Suls and Peppers from the
City of Tor. Similar to the earth pig in form. They are not a favored food, being carrion
eaters, but, are a staple among the rence growers.
TAMBER GULF OYSTER: From the Tamber Gulf, Tamber Gulf Oysters oysters are served raw or baked.
TESLIK: a plant whose extract is the active ingredient in breeding wine.
TOSPIT: The tospit is yellow in color. Small, peach-like fruit that is about the size of a
plum. They are bitter, but edible. Often they are dried and candied. "A bitter, juicy
citrus fruit yellowish in color, somewhat similar to Urth's small tangerine. From the
orchards of Turia. Long stemmed topsits contain an even number of seeds and are rare."

TUMITS: A large carniverous bird of the plains, is hunted and eaten by the Nomadic
people of Gor. Traditionally hunted with bolos the sport lies in wether you or the bird
gets to eat that night. "A large flightless bird, about the size of an ostrich, having an
18'-long hooked beak; carnivorous." (pg. 2 Nomads of Gor)
TUR-PAH: an edible tree parasite with curly, red, ovate leaves; grows on the tur tree; a
main ingredient in sullage
VERR CHEESE: Sharp and a bit crumbly, like a cross between feta and cheddar. The perfect
accent for a fruit platter!
VERR: A goat-like animal. The meat can be eaten. It's milk can be used for drinking or
the making of cheese and butter. Often served as steaks or haunches, even whole legs, upon
occasion, like mutton.
VOSK CARP: Vosk carp is a carp fish from the river Vosk - served baked, fried, or broiled.
VULO: A small pidgeon-like bird. Can be cooked and eaten. The very small eggs are cooked
for the breakfast meal by frying them in a large, flat pan. Takes several birds or many
eggs to make a meal.
WINGFISH (Cosian): The Cosian Wingfish is called so for it's ability to fly and hunt above
the waters of Thassa for short distances. It's livers are considered a delicacy.
WINGFISH: The wingfish is a tiny blue salt-water fish with 4 poisonou spines on its dorsal
fin. It is found in the waters off Port Kar. Its liver is considered a delicacy.
