do-wa-diddy's AT adventure

My name is Tim Bubany: (Trail Name: do-wa-diddy) On February 3, 2001, I will begin my "Appalachian Trail" hike at Springer Mountain, Georgia and walk to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. The trail is basically a foot path that follows the Appalachian Mountain range Northeast, passing through 14 states, several state parks, and national forests. The trail is 2160 (trail miles) long and should take me about six months. For additional information and history of the Appalachian Trail, hit on the "Appalachian Trail Home Page" link on the bottom of this page. Also check out the " Appalachian Trail Data/Journals" link for hiking journals and detailed trial information. Note: My wife Midge will be maintaining and updating this site with my progress.

I'm 56 years old and recently retired after 38 years in the engineering world. The last 25 years of my career focused on engineering sales and project work, requiring heavy travel. What this journey means to my new life, "my own personal renaissance" is a time to slow down and look around, meet, talk with people, and make new friends. My wife will be joining me for side trips during the summer and fall.

Thirty one years ago I had a life altering experience. During a cold March night, I met Mary Jeanne Jansen, a third grade teacher, and things haven't been the same since. We have two children and a beautiful granddaughter. Five months ago, our 26 year old daughter, Stacy, and our son-in-law, Andy, made us Grandparents. Emma is the most beautiful little girl you have ever seen. No kidding, her picture should be on baby food containers - or at least on the Wheaties Box. Our 22 year old son, Shawn, recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in chemical engineering.
