TREE TOUR
Officially opened September 1995
Welcome to the tree tour
This is a City of Regina project that was supported by sponsorship from Green Street Canada and the help of a
number of volunteers. The Tree Tour, which begins in Rotary Park and continues through Kiwanis and
Les Sherman Parks, displays a variety of species suitable to a prairie climate.
Regina is an oasis on the prairie landscape. The stately trees you find in the park around you were all planted by
hand, many at the turn of the century. The City of Regina works year round to care for
new ones.
Trees are important to the enviroment and quality of life in our community. Trees create physical beauty and a
feeling of relaxation, privacy and security. They provide shade to cool our homes and shelter from the wind.
They produce oxygen, absorb noise, and filter dirt and dust. They provide homes and food for wildlife.
We invite you to learn about the trees in your community by exploring our Tree Tour. You can learn to identify
trees and shrubs by closely examining them. Different species of trees have very different characteristics. Many
flower and then produce fruit. Leaf shapes and colours are very unique. Bark varies in colour and texture.
Look for signage to indicate the name of the tree and its characteristics -water needs, sun/shade preference and
whether it attracts wildlife. You will also find valuable information on Dutch Elm Disease and how to protect our
beautiful elms.
A detailed booklet to guide you through the tree tour is available by calling the City of Regina at 777-7000.
