Tree Tour: Green Ash & 'Patmore' Green Ash

Location: (2004)
Les Sherman Park, south of playground.

  • Botanical Name: Fraxinus pensylvanica integerrima
  • Drought Tolerant/Sun-Partial Shade/Attracts Wildlife
  • Height & Spread: 15m x 10m
  • Form: high headed oval
  • Leaf: opposite; compound leaf with 5-9 leaflets;
    faintly irreularly toothed; yellow fall colour
  • Bark: brownish-grey with shallow fissures
  • Fruit: male ('Patmore') and female trees;
    single seed wth long wing; seeds hang in clusters
  • Problems: ash plant bug; ash borer; ash flower-gall mite
  • Use: good shade or boulevard tree; seeds are eaten by birds
