Location: (2004)
Les Sherman Park, several locations, ne of wood bridge;
south of soccer field; and east of west baseball diamond.

  • Botanical Name: Amelanchier alnifolia
  • Drought Resistant/Sun-Partial Shade/Attracts wildlife
  • Height & Spread: 3m x 2m
  • Form: upright spreading
  • Leaf: alternate; oval; yellow-red fall colour
  • Fruit: edible, purple berry in mid summer
  • Problems: apple curculio results in wormy fruit; aphids;
    spidermite; Saskatoon rust
  • Use: shrub border; shelterbelt; fruit is eaten by birds
    and is good for eating and preserves
