Tree Tour: Russian Mountain Ash

Location: (2004)
Rotary Park, far west.
- Botanical Name: Sorbus aucuparia 'Rossica'
- Medium Moisture/Sun/Attracts Wildlife
- Height & Spread: 8m x 4m
- Form: globular to oval
- Leaf: alternate, 25cm, compound leaf with 11-17 leaflets;
finely toothed margin; turns yellow and red in fall
- Bark: bronze; smooth with horizontal lenticels (stripes)
- Flower: white, fragrant, flat topped cluster in May/June
- Fruit: tiny, edible, orange-red berries in clusters
- Problems: iron chlorosis; resistant to fireblight
- Use: good specimen tree for small yards; fruit attracts birds in
fall and winter; there are other suitable Mountain Ash species available
