And the Eagle Also Soars Alone

USS EINSTEIN
Shuttle, Enroute to USS Churchill

"You’re going to have to duck down when you leave sir, the doorway doesn’t open to full vertical, unlike the one’s on the base." The young petty officer remarked as he piloted the shuttle into the main cargo bay of the Federation transport. In front of them were placed eight brand new Valkyrie fighters, destined for the Leviathan. And Ka’Leth was going to be in command of them all.

There were also a couple of large shuttles, which Ka’Leth didn’t recognise at first, then he noticed the Federation Marines markings on the side.

"That's fine, I’ve been in more cramped areas before." Replied the young, yet noble Klingon officer. He’d spent most of the previous day flying to Mars to meet up with the Churchill. From Mars, the transporter was heading straight to the Leviathan, a trip of another six days.

"Well sir, from what I understand I hope you can get along with the XO and the CSO on this tub. I went to the NCO club to unwind one day and they nearly tore up the place just because the XO said, "Klingons should have never have fought the Federation, because when they are losing, they don’t know when or how to quit."

The remarks made Ka'Leth bristle and his nostrils flared as a result.

"I think it’s a bunch of junk personally." The petty officer continued.

"And why do you think that ?" Ka'Leth asked, crossing his arms.

"Well sir, she means the world to me." The young man said, showing him a picture of a Klingon woman and a small infant son .

Ka'Leth smiled and said as the shuttle docked on the Leviathan. "Petty Officer, I admire a man of honour and conviction. Your son will be a fine warrior."

"Thank you sir, she's a school teacher right here on the Starbase." The pilot replied shaking Ka'Leth’s hand as he rose.

"She says about us that, ‘The eagle also soars alone.’ I still can’t figure out that one." He remarked.

The doors opened up and Ka'Leth replied as he exited. "You're not alone, because neither do I."

The shuttle prepared to take on more passengers on its return route as the fighter officer stepped out onto the cargo deck.

He was happy to leave his last assignment, even happier to be with his friend and confidant Aki Taybar, whom had been given the new commission of Captain of the USS Leviathan.

*I have a new command and a new ship. This is a great beginning for me.* He thought *...and maybe VMF-214 would stop being so pig-headed on my request. If not for Taybar, I wouldn’t have come here. Let Starfleet put their vaunted ‘interests’ in the incinerator where they rightfully belong.*

He then got on a turbolift and went straight to the Bridge, if there was going to be trouble during the journey, then he wanted to make it clear that he’d never be the one to start it. As he went in, he asked a crewman the way to the Captain’s ready room. The crewman pointed left and Ka'Leth went in that direction, thanking the young boot as he departed.

The doors opened and he said. "Lt Ka'Leth reporting as ordered."
