Born:
Lanaville, South Carolina, Terra
Physical:
She has many curves to her embarrassment and typically attempts to hide them. She has thick black hair. It is curly and hangs down to her shoulder blades. Megan usually keeps her hair pulled back with a ribbon or clip at the base of her neck or leaves it unbound. She has slender hands with long, delicate fingers. In uniform, she maintains good posture, walks with long, purposeful strides and always keeps her head up.
History:
Born the youngest in a family of 2 boys and one other girl, Megan's parents owned a bed and breakfast located on the eastern coast of the American continent. Growing up around people traveling to her parents' inn fueled her desire to travel, particularly after meeting a Bajoran Starfleet officer for the first time. She also always 'played' at nursing her family whenever anyone was sick. Megan liked being able to help and comfort people and this stuck with her as she grew up. Her family placed great emphasis on school, creating a competitive yet nervous child. Learning came very easy to the girl, but she did not rush through school because she could not decide what she wanted to do with her adult life.
After much soul searching, Megan decided to become a Starfleet doctor. By joining Starfleet, her basic needs would be taken care of, she could travel across the quadrant and still be able to heal people. Her Academy days were usually spent focusing on her medical studies as well as studying behavioral medicine, her minor. She took a small amount of time to date, but there were rumors that an instructor became involved with the cadet. Megan acknowledges only to herself that Lt. Alan Marlowe took advantage of her vulnerabilities, but has never ever told anyone how far the instructor took things, or attempted to take things. Mainly she kept to her studies as well as trying to pick up painting. Not wanting to mentally compete with the genius painters throughout history, Megan refused to take lessons and paints in the privacy of her quarters. She tends to hide the artistic side she has found within herself, using it as an emotional outlet and afraid of the vulnerability it reveals of herself.
For her cadet cruise, Megan was placed on board the USS Invictus. The mission was to work out a dispute among Ferengi merchants and an Orion vessel, the dispute escalating to small acts of violence. By the time Invictus reached the area, several Orions and Ferengi were injured or dead due to ship weapons or tainted goods that had been traded already. Megan found herself warring with her nature and education to heal and the very real human emotions that having to heal people who had injured her friends and colleagues during the period of anarchy before Invictus managed to stop the the fighting.
Her first assignment as an officer was the USS Destiny. Megan was a part of the original crew of the newly comissioned ship. Medically speaking, it was not a challenging assignment, and she found herself bored despite the latest medical technology on board. She did meet a joined Trill for the first time, finding both the youth of the Trill and the wisdom of the symbiot an intriguing contrast. Megan applied for a transfer and left the Destiny feeling as if she'd accomplished nothing.
She was next assigned to the USS Imperial which was sent out to help stop Klingon attacks of an almost defenseless non-UFP world. During this grueling assignment, she lost some of her closest friends as well as seeing her commanding officer die before her eyes during the final battle between the Imperial and the Klingon forces. With a rage she didn't know she could possess, Megan killed the Klingon who mortally wounded the Captain, turning her phaser level 14. The wounded and thoroughly stunned remaining Starfleet officers watched as Megan drug the dying Vulcan into his ready room, sparks flying and lights flickering. In vain she did everything that she could to try to save the Captain, but he died within minutes. When the Imperial limped back to dock, over half of its crew was dead. Doing her best to get past this assignment, Megan still occasionally experiences nightmares from it.
Her last assignment was the USS Moongazer. It was sent out to investigate and help quarantine an illness on a Federation outpost. Working with a scientist and one other doctor, Megan discovered that a strain of bacteria previously undiscovered had infected the outpost's fresh food supply. After days of testing treatments, all of the infected inhabitants were on their way to recovering. Following this incident, Megan acquired an unfortunate intolerance/resistance to most antibiotics and some other medicines as well.
Personality:
Megan is shyly intelligent. She is devoted and tends to put others before herself. She can be bossy, finding it difficult to instruct people who just don't and probably never will "get it." Megan gets irritated easily, but tries to force herself to calm down and try to understand the situation better. She falls in love easily, but never quite falls out of love again; once she feels something for a person, some kind of private attachment/caring always remains. When she does fall in love, she does so completely and passionately. Megan therefore obviously has very intense attractions to those of the opposite sex that she likes, but is too shy to be the one to act first. She doesn't usually believe the feeling of attraction is reciprocated, despite any evidence she may observe. Besides human males, Megan finds Bajorans, Trills and despite her time on the Imperial, Klingon males very attractive.
Megan's excessively self-sufficient and hates asking for help of any kind. She does tend to laugh at inappropriate times, particularly when she's nervous or being sworn at. It irritates her immensely. Megan would very much like to be social, but tends not to join in unless invited.
