Daughter of Brian Wilson VanCroise [civilian astronomer] and Destiny
VanCroise [Homeopathic Healer].  Her parents moved to Tuscon (AZ) to
enjoy the rich experience of Native American spirituality.  (That's
where she met Cadence Luz) Of course, they took a lot from a hodge-
podge of different religions.  Araphina was born into New Age
beliefs and enjoys meditation and all forms of paths that lead to
peace and harmony.  Araphina even had a "vision quest" when she came
that age.  Cadence and Araphina have been friends since childhood. 
Araphina suggested they join the academy in hopes of meeting
more "enlightened" beings than the disappointing human population on
