Barbara and Jennifer met for lunch as planned, Jennifer then apologized to Barbara. Barbara explained it is tough, you never get over your first loss, Jennifer said I know, they both cried, hugged each other then laughed…Jennifer said let’s eat then shop until we drop. Jennifer bought beautiful gifts for Maria and James and, of course, Freeway. Barbara was shopping but did not have enough money with her and was using her credit cards and one card after the other was at the max and she was unable to get anything. Barbara said to Jennifer I cannot understand what is going on, Barbara was embarrassed and Jennifer offered her money, but Barbara refused. Jennifer stopped buying after she had purchased Jonathan a beautiful gold bracelet as she did not want Barbara to feel uncomfortable. They stopped for tea and cookies and went back to their condos.
Jennifer walked in and yelled darling I’m back, Jonathan was in the kitchen, he yelled back here in the kitchen darling. He was sitting at the table having his graham crackers and milk, she chuckled and walked up to him and kissed him. Have a nice day he asked, yes I did she said, but the strangest thing happened. She proceeded to tell him about Barbara and her credit card experience. Jonathan said, I am not surprised, I think Mike is having financial problems, and hitting the Hart Industries’ funds. What? Jennifer said, how do you know? Remember when we went to the Lab and I told you I thought something was wrong, well it’s wrong all right, the Financial Office is closed off with a sign on the door that read UNDER INVESTIGATION…how can you say that Jonathan, we were no where near that area, I saw it from a distance then I went there myself today, after I met Mike and I saw what I wanted to see. The office was shut down by the Auditors and I am meeting with the Comptroller and Mike tomorrow. Jennifer was shocked to think one of your Executives would confiscate funds….Jonathan said, some never get enough darling.
Barbara had called and said she and Mike were planning to stay in for dinner. That was fine with Jonathan as he didn’t want to have dinner with Mike, and he wanted to have Jennifer all to himself for dinner - she liked that and went to give him a kiss, he responded and held her tight, it’s early he said, let’s fool around, she giggled and said Jonathan stop acting like a school boy, he said why not we’re still young. Jennifer said remember what Dr. Colby whispered in your ear - not too much hanky panky - Jonathan said that’s because he is not married to you. Jennifer asked where they were going for dinner, Jonathan said, at a time like this you think of food, darling your slipping. Jennifer said, I know, I know. Jonathan said, I have a very special evening set aside just for you…tonight is Jennifer Hart night, but first, we are going to the beach for a dip, we deserve it.
They went to the beach first for about an hour as Jennifer cannot stay out in the hot sun too long because of all her freckles. Jonathan said, I love to count your freckles, you’re bad, she said. Around 5 pm they went back to their condo, showered and dressed. Jennifer wore a white off the shoulder blouse with a beautiful white layered skirt with ruffles, and white flat shoes, and a white orchid in her hair, that Jonathan bought for her. Jonathan dressed in a matching white suit, white shirt and white tie and wore white shoes also. They were elegant looking and the paparazzi was having a field day taking their picture, and they both enjoyed posing for them and then laughed over it.
They had a special dinner for two, drank Champagne, and danced the night away. They had a night cap, and Jennifer gave Jonathan the bracelet she bought for him, and Jonathan placed a beautiful diamond and jade ring on her right hand pinkie, they kissed and said "WOW". At 2 am they left the Walahoola Dinner Club for a stroll on the beach. Jonathan held her hand they walked through the waves, they laughed, they kissed and just enjoyed each other so much, they loved to be alone. They arrived at the condo at about 2 am, Jennifer was tired but wouldn’t let on to Jonathan, they went to bed kissed good night, and both had a good nights sleep.
Jonathan was up early and kissed Jennifer good bye as he left for the Lab, he changed his mind about taking her with him. He met with the Auditors before Mike arrived. Mike came in around 10 am and looked at Jonathan and said what is going on…Jonathan being very upset, said to Mike why don’t you tell me. Jonathan asked the Auditors to step out while he talked to Mike. Mike was very upset and starting to cry…he began to open up to Jonathan and told him that he let it all go too far, a one night stance with a women led into more women, alcohol, and drugs, ran his credit cards to the max, plus his marriage was on the rocks, and never discussed it with Barbara he just let her feel that their marriage was over, and he still owed the drug dealers millions as he was supporting his ladies’ habit. He was in over his head and the only alternative was to start to confiscate funds from Hart Industries. Jonathan said we were handling all the expenses for the Lab and when the funds came in you stole them, Mike how could you let this go so far? Mike said I don’t know Jonathan, I guess it was excitement and adventurous. The worst thing Jonathan had to do in his life was to dismiss one of his Executives…at this point he had to tell Mike that he was let go and that his salary would be sent to Barbara for the next 12 months, since Mike had no more stipend funds. Jonathan was devastated, and said I have to get out of here….he spoke with the person in charge and told him to let everyone know that the lab will shut down temporarily. He said have them all come in the meeting hall, and I will explain what happened and how they will be compensated. Jonathan had his meeting and explained to all the Lab will temporarily shut down, everyone will be receiving their regular pay until the Lab opens up again which Jonathan hopes will be soon as he will be able to assign a new Executive to the Lab. Everyone had respect for him and as they left he shook each hand. The lab closed and Jonathan headed back to Jennifer.
Darling he said, I am back, and we are cutting our vacation short. I have to get back to Hart Industries, Mike has confiscated millions to support his drug habit and many others. Jennifer was shocked, Jonathan you cannot do this to them, Jonathan, said I sure can, because I cannot get him out of the mess he is in, and I cannot afford to lose stockholder’s money. Oh my, Jennifer said, and made a drink for him, some lunch, then had him lie down for a bit before dinner. Jennifer said, we are not going anywhere tonight, we are going to spend a nice evening here at home, then I will get things packed for tomorrow. No, he said we are staying until Sunday, there isn’t anything I can do until Monday. Oh okay that sounds good said Jennifer. Jonathan got in touch with Frank to tell him that they were cutting their trip short and for him to be at the airport around 1 pm Sunday afternoon, Frank agreed.
Sunday morning Jennifer and Jonathan were getting their things together, and Jennifer said she wanted to go say good-bye to the Davis’. Jonathan didn’t want to go, but she forced him into doing so…they knocked on the door and no answer. Jonathan checked with the manager’s office only to find out that the Davis’ had left unexpectedly. Jonathan and Jennifer were both upset, but Jonathan said it figures he would something like this, Mike cannot face me.
Jonathan and Jennifer left the condo and were on their way to the airport in their limo. Frank was waiting for them, they boarded the plane about 12:30 pm. Jonathan sat silent and turned to Jennifer to apologize for cutting their trip short. Oh, that’s okay she said, we have each other, that’s all that matters….she stood behind him and proceeded to massage his neck and shoulders and that made him relax a little and he went off to sleep. Jennifer picked up her book and sat where Max always sat - she lifted the arm rest as she did in the past and saw some things that Max had left and chuckled. She shut the arm rest, looked up to the heavens and said - oh Max, he sure needs you now. Jonathan woke up did you say something Hon, no she said just thinking out loud. Their dinner was prepared and they ate and sipped white wine. They were talking about their trip and laughed over the silly things they did, after which, they sat back to relax sipping wine for the remainder of their trip to Los Angeles. They arrived at LAX late, James was there to pick them up, and of course, Freeway and when they arrived home they went straight to bed. Jonathan had to get up early for a meeting the next day with his Executive Board at Hart Industries to solve the mess at the Lab.
Jonathan was up early, Jennifer still sleeping, he called Stanley to get the Executive Board together by 10 am, no problem Stanley said. At the meeting Jonathan explained what had happened and said the Board must appoint a replacement for Mike immediately. That was not a problem, the appointment was made sooner than Jonathan thought, by late afternoon the announcement was made that Jack La Marr, was selected. Jonathan told Liz to get him on the phone. Jonathan spoke with Jack and he accepted the position willing. It was a good choice as Jack is already stationed at the Honolulu Executive Offices in Hawaii.
A call came in from Barbara Davis asking to speak with Jonathan, Jonathan said hello Barbara what happened, Jennifer and I looked for you and Mike to say our good byes and you were already gone. Barbara was sobbing, said oh Jonathan I am so sorry to have to tell you this, but, Mike shot himself last night, I found him in a pool of blood in bed. Jonathan was devastated, he called off the meeting. Jonathan told Stanley to get all the preliminaries and plan to attend the funeral in Hawaii…Stanley said okay Mr. Hart. Jonathan went on home as he was very upset, what did I do he thought. When he arrived home, Jennifer saw that he was white as a ghost, darling what happened she said. He told Jennifer and she went into a state of shock, oh my god, poor Barbara. What else will happen for us to remember our 20th wedding anniversary, I don’t know darling, I don’t know Jonathan said. Maria came in and told them that dinner was ready. Jonathan didn’t want anything, but Jennifer said he had to have something, he said, all right darling if it makes you happy. After dinner they sat at the piano and Jonathan played their love song, while Jennifer hummed it sitting next to him, and Freeway on the sofa watching the two of them. They retired early, they laid in bed side by side talked and then Jennifer heard Jonathan breathing heavily, she turned to him and he was sound a sleep, she reached over to him, kissed him and said good night darling.
The next morning Jonathan was up early doing work at his desk in the den. Jennifer woke up and was looking for him next to her, then she got up. Darling, where are you? What are you doing? Here darling, just cleaning up some loose ends..Jennifer went to the kitchen for two cups of coffee…coffee she said, oh yes, thanks Jonathan said. Once I get this off to Stanley, then I am spending the day with my best girl. Ooh! She said, she bent to kiss him.
While sipping their coffee, Jonathan said, okay my princess now what is this you wanting to play Santa at the Mission Street Orphanage at Christmas time? I thought it would be nice Jennifer said. Are you sure that is the only reason or do you have something brewing in that pretty head of yours. Well, perhaps we can get some children here and treat them to a nice Christmas day…Jonathan said, then they go back. Of course, she said. Jonathan looked at her puzzled; Jennifer said stop assuming that I have other alternatives. Okay he said but Christmas is a long way off and right now first things first. When is your appointment with Dr. Colby? Next week Jennifer said, okay I am going with you, Jennifer smiled with a smirk, got up walked passed him to go up to get dressed, and he patted her on the butt. Freeway came running through to go upstairs with Jennifer. Jonathan ran upstairs after Freeway and grabbed Jennifer from behind and hugged her - Jonathan, Jennifer said - what are you doing. I was jealous of Freeway, I want to watch you dress also - why should Freeway be the only lucky one - Jonathan, don’t you have to go to the office today, nope he replied I am staying here with you all day - feasting my eyes, then we will go to lunch, and then I will tell you of my plans to celebrate the completion of our 20th wedding anniversary. Still Jennifer said, oh Jonathan said, we have until the end of the year to celebrate, and this my darling will be climatic - ooh, said Jennifer, I like that word. After Jennifer dressed she sat down at the edge of the bed next to Jonathan and said okay where are we going. To London he said, London, why London, you will see Jonathan said to her, so pack the bags, get the passports we are leaving tomorrow evening at 8 pm, and Maria, James and Freeway are coming also…Jennifer was thrilled.
At 8 pm the Harts were off to London - their sleeping quarters on the jet were ready along with Maria’s, James’ and Freeway’s. Jennifer was tickled pink because they were all together. The Jet was to touch down at Heathrow at 8 am - they were all up early for a breakfast. Their limo was waiting for them to take them to the Ritz Hotel. They had the top suite where Jonathan and Jennifer had their first love affair. Jennifer was laughing and said okay now what are you up to Jonathan. Tonight we are going to Sholtz’s then to Churchill’s. Remember all of this he said, yes Jennifer said, then we are coming back to the suite and you are going to fall asleep on me…oh, he said you will never let me live that one down, will you. Tomorrow, he said is your big surprise.
After their night out on the town, they arrived to the Ritz in the wee hours of the morning, made passionate love, and drank more champagne; she was so excited about everything she was unable to get to sleep.
The next morning they showered together, dressed. Maria had breakfast for them and, of course, Freeway sitting between the two of them. Jonathan called for his car, and they were on their way to the big surprise at Themes River banks…they both got out of the limo. Remember this Jonathan said, I certainly do said Jennifer. Jonathan looked at her, and said at precisely this minute, 20 years ago I proposed to you. Now look at Tower Bridge, Jennifer did, Jonathan waved his hand and a banner fell that read HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DARLING I LOVE YOU. Jennifer was thrilled she turned to him and said your still crazy. He said and still crazy about you, if not crazier. He took her in his arms and kissed her lovingly, she had tears in her eyes and said this heals all my wounds, they looked up at the heavens and said - hi Max - remember all of this, wish you were here to share it with us. The Harts walked away hand in hand back to their limo. It was all so perfect, Jennifer said, let’s go home darling, and as Max would say, "they lived happily ever after."
