Part 30

Angel is awakened by little hands shaking him. "Katie I'm sleeping" he mutters groggily

"Wanna sweep wiwf you" Katie yawns

Angel lifts the covers "Alright"

Katie crawls in beside Angel "Wuv you Daddy" she yawns kissing his cheek before curling against his chest

"Love you too Katie" he kisses her head

"Whewe Mommy?"

"She's in Grandma's room."

" 'tay" Katie yawns

Buffy opens her bedroom door smiling when she sees Katie curled up against Angel. She goes over to the bed putting her hand on the little girl's back. "Katie-girl time to get up"

Katie sighs in her sleep snuggling closer to her father.

"Come on Katie."

Katie yawns "Mommy?"

"Hey baby. Time for breakfast."

" 'tay" Katie nods "Daddy get up too?"

"No let Daddy get some more sleep." Buffy picks Katie up "he's really tired." she carries Katie out of the room

"Daddy" Katie says happily seeing her father walk down the stairs

Angel picks up the little girl "Hey my girl where's Mommy?"

"Buffy's in Mom's room studying." Dawn answers leaning against the door frame. "I told her I'd keep an eye on Katie until you got up." she glances at the clock "Since your up I am out of here."

"Where are you going?" Buffy asks walking down the stairs

"Supposed to meet some friends." Dawn answers grabbing her jacket

"Be back before dark"

"Buffy I'm not five" Dawn protests

"And I don't want to have to send Spike out to drag you home again"

"You wouldn't!" Dawn challenges

"I would and I will if you aren't home by dark"

"Fine" Dawn huffs walking out the door

"Was I ever like that?" Buffy mutters shaking her head "I called Willow. I asked her to get the records from the hospital. She said she'd be here sometime this afternoon."

Angel nods

"Hi Angel" Willow greets entering the livingroom

"Wiwo" Katie grins hugging her aunt's legs "Daddy pwaying wiwf me"

Willow smiles crouching before the little girl "I see that. Are you having fun?"

Katie nods solemnly "I gonna go pway wiwf Daddy now" she returns to her father sitting on the floor.

"Katie Daddy and I need to talk to Willow we'll be in the dining room OK?"

"Daddy an' me aw pwaying Mommy"

"I'll be back in a little while" Angel promises kissing the little girl's forehead. "We'll play some more when we're done" he stands following Buffy and Willow into the diningroom.

"I uh got the information you wanted." Willow says sitting down at the table.

"And?" Buffy asks

"Here I made a print out. These are the records they took on you." Willow slides them across to Buffy. "And these are the twins records" she slides the papers to Angel.

"Anything interesting?" Angel asks

"From what I found it all looks clean." Willow pauses "But I looked farther."

"What did you find?" Buffy asks

"I uh found reference to a John Doe being treated at the same time." she flips through some papers "That's all I really found"

"Who was John Doe released to?" Angel asks

Willow shrugs "There wasn't any mention... at least not in these records"

"What other records are there?"

"Sometimes the hospital has records not put into the computer system. Might check those out."

Angel takes Buffy's file and reads through it. "What the..."

"What's wrong?" Willow asks

Angel looks at them "It says here that what they gave Buffy was a mild sedative"

Buffy shakes her head "It wasn't though. I was out within seconds."

"Yes but a Slayer wouldn't have been knocked out with a mild sedative as fast as you were." Angel explains

"Who knew about that?"

"The doctor who delivered them was trained by the Council." Willow reminds

"Yes but we never told her Angel was their father. She still had loyalties to the Council." Buffy says

"The fact that we were involved was well known throughout Sunnydale's demon population" Angel says "They could have figured it out."

"Are you saying that the Council could have taken our son?"

"Buffy you know how the Council reacted when they found out about us. How do you think they'd have reacted to finding out the twins were mine?"

"They never said a word about my pregnancy."

"God Buffy you think they didn't know?" Angel argues "The Council probably has people keeping an eye on us."

In the livingroom Katie is startled when she hears her father's voice rise. She stands carrying her stuffed pig towards the entryway of the diningroom. Her thumb in her mouth as she watches her parents and aunt talk.

"They could have him in London" Buffy says softly

Angel sighs "I doubt it."

"Have you told Giles what you found?" Willow asks

Buffy shakes her head "Not yet. I wanted to be sure"

"Mommy? Daddy?" Katie calls tentatively

Angel turns around to see his daughter watching them confused. He stands going over he picks Katie up. "What's wrong?"

"Daddy why awe you mad?" Katie asks concerned

Angel sighs "I'm not mad baby"

Katie tilts her head looking at her father shaking her head "He mad" she rests her head on his shoulder

"Who's mad?" Angel asks

"He is" Katie yawns "I can heaw him. He wants out." she lifts her head "Who is he Daddy?"

Angel inhales sharply knowing what his daughter is feeling

"Angel is she..." Buffy asks hoarsely

Angel nods stroking Katie's back "I think so"

"What?" Willow asks confused

Buffy looks at her bestfriend "Angelus" she whispers

"What? How?" Willow stammers

Angel shakes his head "I'm going to go put her down for a nap"

"No Daddy" Katie protests sleepily

Buffy sits there staring into space as Angel carries the child upstairs. "God Willow what is going on?" she groans "My son could be alive with the Council. My daughter is hearing Angelus."

"We'll figure it all out" Willow assures

Angel carries Katie into the bedroom setting her in her bed.

"Daddy who is he?" Katie asks sleepily

Angel sighs "He's apart of me." he answers sitting on the edge of the bed. "He's like another personality... like a twin"

"Wike me?"

Angel shakes his head "He and I share a body. He's not a very nice guy."

"Why?"

"He did some bad things"

"What did he do?"

"Well he almost killed Mommy."

"Oh" Katie frowns "Does he stiww want to kiww Mommy?"

"I don't know. But I promise he won't hurt anyone"

Katie nods sleepily "Wuv you Daddy."

"Love you too Katie" Angel smiles smoothing her hair out of her face. "Now get some sleep." he kisses her forehead

"Daddy stay tiww I go to sweep" she yawns

"Sure baby" Angel sits there until he's sure the little girl is asleep. He pulls the covers up and kisses Katie's forehead.

Buffy looks up from the couch as Angel enters the livingroom "She asleep?"

Angel nods sitting beside Buffy on the couch. "She asked some questions" he says

"What did you tell her?"

"Buffy she knows what I am. I didn't tell her everything"

"What did you say?"

"I just told her Angelus is just another personality."

"How'd she take it?"

"She'll have more questions when she's older."

"That's going to be an interesting conversation" Buffy mutters running her fingers through her hair. "Angel how did she know Angelus was angry?"

"She must have felt it" Angel sighs

"She's never done that before" Buffy reminds

"Maybe she has felt him but she not enough to notice him."

"Why would she feel him now?"

"Both of us were angry" Angel shrugs "Maybe his anger was enough for Katie to notice him."

"Angel..." Buffy trails off as they are interrupted by a knock at the door. "I better go get that" she stands going to the door. "What are you doing here?!" she demands

"We need to have a little chat Summers" a male voice says angrily

"Forrest" Buffy hisses "look I'm busy"

"I just bet you are" Forrest snaps entering the house.

"What do you want Forrest?" Buffy demands

Concerned Angel goes to the foyer "Buffy?"

"Ahh yes the famous ex." Forrest drawls looking at Angel

"Daddy" Katie whimpers from the top of the stairs

Buffy looks up to see Katie standing there her normally chocolate brown eyes a golden amber. "Angel" she nods

Angel follows her gaze and sees the little girl's eyes. He hurries to grab the little girl before Forrest notices the vampirac trait. "Katie what are you doing up?" he asks

"I had a bad dweam." Katie whimpers clinging to her father

"Lets put you back to bed and you can tell me about it"

Buffy looks at Forrest "What do you want Forrest?" she crosses her arms over her chest

"I told you not to hurt Riley"

"I haven't" Buffy retorts

"You know you should pull the shade down before you make out with someone." he smirks as he sees the look cross Buffy's face

"You were spying on me?!" Buffy demands

"No passing by" Forrest corrects "you may be the Slayer but I don't like it when anyone breaks my friends hearts. You hurt him... I hurt you"

"That a threat?"

Forrest smirks "You catch on quick."

"Get out" Buffy orders "You mess with me and you'll find yourself in a whole lot of trouble."

Forrest shrugs walking out the door.

Buffy locks the door behind him and then heads up the stairs.

Angel looks up as Buffy enters. "Something wrong?" he asks

"Riley and his men saw us kiss last night."

"You going to go talk to him?"

"He's my boyfriend Angel. I don't like lying to him."

Angel nods

"I'll be back as soon as possible." she promises kissing Katie's forehead "Don't let her sleep too long." Buffy walks out of the room leaving Angel and Katie time to sleep.

Buffy knocks on the door.

"What?" Riley demands opening the door "Buffy" he says surprised

"I need to talk to you"

"About what?" Riley asks

"Forrest paid me a little visit" Buffy says entering the room. "I wanted to explain"

"What is there to explain? You were making out with your ex-boyfriend." Riley snaps

"Riley will you just listen to me" Buffy pleads

"What's there to say?"

"It was just a kiss."

"A very friendly one" Riley remarks

"Why am I even bothering explaining to you! You are too narrow-minded to understand."

"I maybe narrow-minded but at least I didn't screw a hostile and have kids with a hostile"

Hearing the disgust in Riley's voice Buffy heads to the door "Whatever Riley. Have it your way."

"You know I was willing to overlook the fact your kid's a hostile."

"Get this through your head Riley... Katie is not a hostile. She's a little girl... a human little girl."

"She's dangerous Buffy. Who knows what she could grow up to be"

"I swear Riley if you go near my daughter I won't stop them from hurting you."

Riley follows her out the door to the hallway "What Killer you going to overlook what they are?"

"Don't call me that" Buffy retorts hurrying down the stairs. She slams out of the Frat house.

Forrest smiles 'So Summers has a little secret Ri's been keeping from us' he heads to the secret entrance of the Initiative.

"Spike we'll be back in a few hours." Buffy says grabbing her jacket.

Katie looks up to see her parents putting on their jackets. "No" she cries rushing over she wraps her arms around Angel's leg "No go" she shrieks

"Katie we'll be back before you go to bed" Buffy assures crouching before the little girl. "Come on let Daddy go" she tugs on one of the little girl's pigtails.

Katie shakes her head tightening her grip on her father

"Katie how about a cookie?" Dawn bribes

"No"

"Katie" Angel untangles the little girl from his leg lifting her up "I'll be back in time to tell you a story OK?"

Katie shakes her head wrapping her arms around Angel's neck clinging to him like a Koala bear.

"Good thing you don't have to breathe huh?" Dawn smirks

"Spike help me out here" Angel requests

The blond rolls his eyes going over he helps Angel get the little girl to release him. "Come on Kitten let Peaches go" After a few minutes Spike has the screaming child in his arms.

"Katherine" Angel growls warningly

Katie stops screaming and looks at her father wide-eyed sticking her thumb in her mouth she rests her head on Spike's shoulder.

"Don't give her sugar either of you" Buffy looks at Spike and Dawn sternly "I don't want her hyper"

"Sure Slayer."

"Be good Katie" Buffy tells her daughter

"No go" Katie pleads

"We won't be gone long" Angel promises opening the door for Buffy

"How about a movie Kitten?" Spike suggests

Katie shrugs snuggling closer to her 'brother' "Want Mommy and Daddy"

"Enjoy" Dawn says "I got calls to make."

"Dawn doesn't want to watch a movie with us" Spike pouts

"I've got better things to do" Dawn retorts stomping up the stairs

Spike carries Katie into the living room "What do you want to watch?"

Katie sighs "Wobin Hood"

"Robin Hood it is" Spike chuckles

Spike hears a soft thud from outside. He stands with Katie in his arms heading to the foyer. "Dawn?" he calls

"What?" the teen returns

"Just wanted to know where you are" Spike replies

" 'ike?" Katie says concerned

Suddenly the front door slams open, Spike growls setting Katie down "Go upstairs" he orders pushing her towards the stairs.

Katie glances over her shoulder to find Spike in what she called his 'funny' face. She starts to run up the stairs when someone grabs her.

"Let 'er go you wanker" Spike growls

" 'ike help" Katie shrieks squirming trying to get out of her masked captors arms. " 'ike" she kicks at the man

"Spike?" Dawn calls from the top of the stairs

"Dawn stay upstairs" Spike yells

" 'ike" Katie screams watching as her 'brother' goes down with a thud

"Let her go" Dawn says angrily trying to grab her niece from the man holding the crying child.

"We need to move they'll be back" the man orders "make the kid stop crying"

Dawn sees the fear in Katie's now amber gaze "Give her to me. I can get her to calm down."

"How do I know you won't run with her?" the man demands

"We're supposed to stay near Spike when he's in charge" Dawn replies looking at the unconscious vampire "Katie won't let me leave without Spike" she takes the little girl holding her close "Shh Katie its OK"

" 'ike?" Katie whimpers

"He'll be OK" Dawn soothes

"Lets go" the man orders his men as they pick up Spike and carrying him out the door. "We need to go before they return"

Two men prod Dawn and Katie out the door. "Do you mind your scaring her" Dawn snaps glaring at the men behind her

"She's a hostile who cares" one of them shrugs

"She's a baby" Dawn argues then frowns "Wait your Riley's friends"

"Shut up kid" the leader orders forcing Dawn and Katie into the van beside Spike.

Katie looks at her 'brother' lying beside them. " 'ike 'ake up" she says patting his cheek sniffling back tears

"Katie its OK" Dawn says holding Katie on her lap

"Want Mommy and Daddy" Katie sniffles

"You better let us go" Dawn warns "My sister isn't going be too happy when she finds out you took us."

The leader shrugs "We'll deal with her"

"Angel where are the rest of the records?" Buffy asks looking at Angel concerned. "We looked through everything."

"I don't know. We better get out of here before they come back" Angel suggests "we'll do some more research and see what we can find"

Buffy nods following Angel out of the records room. As they are walking down the hall Buffy's phone rings. "No Spike I am not picking up any cigarettes for you" she says in greeting

"Its Faith"

"Oh sorry its usually Spike. What can I do for you Faith?"

"Uh B you might want to get home" Faith says

"Why? What's going on?" when she doesn't get an answer "Faith?"

"Spike's gone. So are Katie and Dawn."

"What?!" Buffy exclaims "Are you sure?"

"His car's here. He wouldn't take them out at night unless he was driving. Someone busted the front door down."

Buffy stares at Angel horrified "We'll be right there" she shoves the phone in her pocket "They took Katie, Dawn and Spike."

"Who?"

Buffy shakes her head tears forming she sets her jaw "We better get back."

Angel nods then the two take off

"Katie wanna go home" the child mumbles hugging her aunt's neck

"Angel and Buffy will come get us" Dawn assures

In the corner Spike groans "Bloody hell my head"

" 'ike" Katie sighs going over to the blond vampire she crawls into his lap. "Wanna go home 'ike"

Spike kisses Katie's head "I know" he frowns sniffing "Dawn when was she last changed?"

"Angel changed her after dinner" Dawn shrugs

Spike stands handing Katie to Dawn he goes to the door "Hey you bloody pricks the kid needs to be changed" he yells pounding on the door

"My sister won't be too happy if she gets a rash" Dawn adds

"Faith" Buffy yells entering the house "Faith?"

Angel enters right behind Buffy surveying the damage

"Whoever took them took Spike down" Faith says entering the foyer

"He fought big time" Angel states looking around the room.

Buffy frowns noticing a burn mark on the floor. "Oh my God."

"What?" Angel asks

"Angel I know who took them"

"Who?" Angel demands

"The Initiative" Buffy whispers

"Riley took Katie?" Angel growls "I'm going to kill him"

Buffy grabs his arm "No."

"You dare to defend him when his kind kidnaps our daughter? Your sister? Spike?"

"Riley may be really pissed at me but he wouldn't kidnap Katie and Dawn." Buffy insists

"How can you be so sure he wouldn't?!"

"There's only one way to find out" Faith says when the other two look at her she smiles "We ask him." she says with a glint in her eyes

"Angel why don't you call the others. I'll go see if I can round Riley up."

"I know where to find him" Faith offers

"Where?"

"Saw him at Willie's last night" Faith shrugs "Willie said he's been hanging around for a while"

"That makes it easier for us to get him" Angel says "Faith you call the others and tell them to meet us at the Mansion."

"Angel I don't need you to come with me" Buffy protests

"I'm going." Angel retorts with a low growl

"Fine. Faith we'll meet you at the mansion in an hour" Buffy follows Angel out the door. "Angel calm down" she calls as they run down the street

Angel growls angrily turning his eyes blazing "I will not calm down."

Buffy stares at him seeing the anger and fear in his eyes "Katie will be fine. Spike and Dawn will look after her."

Angel clenches his hands glaring at the teen before him seeing the worry in her eyes. "She's a baby Buffy. If anything happens to her I will kill them."

Buffy winces at the cold and deadly tone in his voice. She reaches up and touches his cheek "Angel"

At her tone his human face returns. "We should hurry." they continue towards the bar.

In the cell Dawn smiles at Katie "How's that Katie?" she asks pulling the little girl's pants up. "Feel better?"

Katie nods holding her arms up to Dawn "Katie clean"

"Good" Dawn nods picking the child up "at least it was only a wet diaper" she chuckles

Spike nods seeing the little girl staring out the plastic-like door. "You OK Kitten?"

Katie looks at Spike " 'ike dere awe odders wike you an' Daddy"

"Not quite Kitten" Spike ruffles the child's hair with a smile

"Dawnie?"

"What Katie?"

"I want Daddy"

"Angel and Buffy will find us." Dawn assures then loudly she says "And kick these jerks asses"

Katie giggles

"What?" Spike asks warily

"He mad"

"Who?"

"Da one in Daddy. He weawwy mad."

"Who?" Dawn asks

Spike sighs "Angelus."

"Oh boy they are really in trouble if he shows up" Dawn grins

Spike nods

Willie looks up as he hears the door slam open and a small blond girl enter with a glowering dark-haired man right behind "Slayer. Angel. Its been a while"

Buffy glares at Willie then notices Riley sitting at the bar. "Riley" she greets going over to the soldier

"I'm busy" Riley retorts

Angel grabs Riley's arm forcing the human to look at him. "Everybody out!" he roars his demon face appearing

"B-but" Willie stammers

"Willie" Buffy says warningly

"Try not to destroy the place" Willie requests "We're closed for a while... everyone out" he orders

Once the bar is empty Angel speaks "Where are they?"

"Who?"

"Your men kidnapped Katie, Dawn and Spike" Buffy answers

"Don't tell me you didn't know" Angel growls

"I didn't. I haven't been down there all day. Walsh..." he trails off with a frown

"What?" Angel demands

"She gave me the weekend off"

"You had no clue they took them?" Buffy asks

"No" Riley shakes his head

"If I find out you had anything to do with them being grabbed" Angel hisses his eyes flashing

"Hey I didn't. Why would I go up against Buffy? I know what would happen to me if I tried anything. I like Katie and Dawn. What I said earlier was because I was mad. I wouldn't hurt them"

"Angel let him go." Buffy says softly putting her hand on his arm

Angel releases the soldier "We better go"

Buffy nods glancing at Riley momentarily she follows Angel out of the bar. "I told you he didn't have anything to do with this"

"Buffy he hunts demons. Katie is my child... I'm a demon. Of course they would take her if they found out about her."

"But who? Who found out about her?" Buffy wonders then comes to a halt "Angel... Forrest"

Angel looks at Buffy "What?"

"He threatened to ruin me. He could have seen Katie when she was on the stairs." she stares at Angel her hand over her mouth "He could have overheard me and Riley arguing. Angel if he has Katie and Dawn he will hurt them."

"Katie and Spike yes... but Dawn she's human."

Buffy stares at Angel "No she isn't." she admits

"Buffy what are you talking about?"

"Angel I did a spell... Dawn isn't my sister"

"What do you mean?"

"Its a long story. She was sent to me for some reason. Giles knows and now you."

"What is she?" Angel demands

"I don't know" Buffy sighs "all I know is that she's now my sister"

"Does she know?"

Buffy shakes her head "Her memories... everyone's memories were changed when she came into our lives. Angel she's in just as much danger as Katie... maybe even more."

Angel stares at Buffy still feeling confused "We better get to the mansion and come on with a plan"

"Spike better look after them."

"He will" Angel assures

"Dawn get some sleep" Spike tells the teen

"I'm not tired" Dawn retorts

"The Slayer will stake my hide if you don't get some sleep. Kitten's asleep"

"Katie can sleep through pretty much anything" Dawn grumbles

"Just get some sleep" Spike chuckles

Dawn leans against Spike her head on his shoulder "Oh fine" she yawns

Spike looks at Katie asleep against his chest 'Hurry up Peaches'

In her sleep Katie whimpers snuggling closer to her 'brother'

Spike rubs her back soothingly "Shh Kitten"

Buffy and Angel enter the Mansion to find their friends waiting. "Buffy" Willow says rushing over to her friend "you OK?" she asks hugging the blond

Buffy shrugs "I've been better."

"What do you know?" Giles asks

"Riley said that Walsh gave him the weekend off. I think Forrest overheard us talking about Katie. He knew that if Riley found out the plan that he'd oppose it."

"So of course Walsh gave him time off" Xander nods

"How'd they get Spike?" Willow asks "You know he wouldn't have let them take Katie without a fight"

"They used the taser on him." Buffy answers

"Then they're goin' down" Faith says

"That they are" Angel agrees his voice hard

"We need a plan" Giles says removing his glasses

"I've got one" Buffy says

"What?" Angel asks

"The elevator shaft in the hall downstairs is the access to the Initiative. Willow do you think you could turn off the power for that block?"

"I think so. What are you thinking Buffy?"

"Shut down the power for Lowell house would result in the Initiative being shut down wouldn't it?"

Willow nods "If we could knock the back-up generator we'd be able to get in and out with out setting off the alarms"

"We still have the problem of getting the soldiers out before" Xander points out "there's no way we could get in and out with all the soldiers there."

"I've got an idea on that" Angel says

"Let's get to work then" Giles suggests

"We don't have time to do it tonight... the sun's going to be up in a few hours" Willow states

Buffy sighs "Spike better keep an eye on them or I'm seriously going to stake him."

"B Spike adores Katie and Dawn you know he won't let anything happen to them" Faith assures

Buffy nods silently walking out the door to the courtyard. She goes to the stone bench beside the water fountain. 'First you take Angel from, then William, and now maybe Katie.' she hugs her knees to her chest as tears fall. "I need Katie back Angel."

Angel sits beside the crying young woman "We'll get her and Dawn back" he promises putting his arm around her shoulders.

"I can't lose her too Angel." Buffy cries curling into his embrace. "She's our baby"

"We'll get her back... then we'll look for William." he kisses her head rocking her as she cries. "Everything will work out"

"Dawn I hungry" Katie yawns

The door opens and in walks Forrest with a few other commandos

Seeing the soldier Spike growls stepping protectively between the commandos and the kids. "What do you want?"

"Walsh wants to see the kid" Forrest replies

"Then bring her 'ere. Kitten isn't going anywhere with you"

"Yeah" Dawn agrees holding her niece protectively staying behind Spike

"We can hand her over to us... or we can take her by force" Forrest gestures to the men behind him. "Its up to you"

Seeing the men Spike knows he won't be able to fight long and protect Dawn and Katie at the same time. "Dawn goes with her" Spike says

"Spike?" Dawn looks at him

Forrest nods "Alright"

"They stay together the whole time."

"Fine" Forrest agrees

Spike turns around and looks at Dawn "Think you can handle it?"

Dawn nods "Sure"

"Kitten don't worry about these wankers OK" Spike strokes Katie's head "Dawn will stay with you OK?"

Katie nods "Wuv you 'ike"

Spike grins "Be good little sister"

" 'kay" Katie says

"Let's go" Forrest orders

With one last look at Spike Dawn follows the soldiers out of the cell. "So where are we going?" Dawn demands

"Walsh wants to meet with the kid"

"Oh" Dawn replies shivering slightly as they walk down the hallway. She holds Katie closer as she hears the little girl whimper. "Shh"

" 'dey watch me" Katie whispers to Dawn. " 'dey scawed Dawnie"

Forrest leads them into a white exam room "Professor" he says nodding to the woman in a white lab coat

Dawn stares at the woman "What do you want?"

"I just want to talk to the child." Professor Walsh says "Have a seat" she gestures

Warily Dawn sits down with Katie on her lap. "What about?"

"What are your names?" Professor Walsh asks

"You kidnap us and you don't know" Dawn snickers

"Names?" Walsh asks again

"Dawn Marie Summers."

"And what about you?" Walsh nods at Katie

"She's Katherine Angela Summers"

"Named aftew my Daddy" Katie says proudly

Dawn grins

"Age?"

"I'm 14 she's 18 months" For the next half hour Dawn answers questions about herself and Katie.

Buffy awakens to find Angel laying beside her watching her. "Angel?"

"Morning" he says softly

"I hope Katie and Dawn are OK" Buffy says

"We'll get them back tonight" Angel assures

" 'ikey when's Mommy and Daddy getting hewe?" Katie asks

"They'll be here when they can" Spike assures

"Mom is going to be really mad." Dawn sighs

"She'll get over it"

The door opens and in walks Forrest "Walsh wants to see her again" he nods at Katie. He watches as the vampire kisses the child's forehead before handing her to the teenager. "Lets go" he orders

Dawn rolls her eyes "Ever hear of the word please"

"No be rude" Katie wags her finger at the man causing Spike to snicker

"Are you sure this will work?" Xander asks nervously as they stand before the frat house.

"I called in some favors. Some vampires and demons are going to cause some trouble. Resulting in the Initiative boys being called out." Angel explains as they enter the frat house

"Uh what if they decide to snack?" Willow stammers

"I told them that we'd hunt 'em down." Angel answers

"Willow how much longer?" Buffy asks as they reach the mirrored doorway.

"About 30 seconds" Willow answers looking at her watch.

Katie and Dawn are sitting in the exam room when Katie grins happily

"What Katie?" Dawn asks knowing the look

"Daddy coming" Katie says happily.

"Alright" Walsh says entering the room with a tray. "Now Katherine I just need to draw some blood."

Katie shakes her head "No" her eyes flickering towards the door knowing her father is near.

The lights go out "There" Willow grins

"Good job Wills" Xander applauds

Angel and Buffy look at each other and then together they shatter the mirror allowing them access to the elevator shaft. Buffy looks at the others "Down we go" she says following Angel into the shaft.

"If I break a bone do you think I could sue the Initiative?" Xander muses aloud.

"I doubt it." Willow giggles "What would you say? 'See what happened was my friends and I were breaking into a government installation and I fell down the elevator shaft' Yeah I can really see you getting money out of that one" they make their way down the elevator shaft.

"Hey it was worth a shot" Xander grumbles

"Katie no needles" the girl says vehemently shaking her head

"Katie doesn't want you to take blood"

"What does she care? She's not human" Forrest snaps

"We're here" Angel announces as they reach the door.

"Good lets go get Spike and the midgets" Faith says helping Buffy and Angel open the door.

"She is too" Dawn argues. "She doesn't want you to draw blood so you aren't" she holds Katie tighter

Professor Walsh nods at Forrest and Graham. She watches as the teen struggles to keep them from taking the now screaming child.

Angel growls "Katie's scared" he looks at Buffy "So's Dawn"

"We better go get them" Buffy says running down the hall.

"Stop it your scaring her" Dawn yells as Forrest manages to take Katie out of her arms.

"DADDY!? MOMMY?! NOO!!!" Katie shrieks trying to get loose

"Hold her still" Walsh orders

"Let her go" Dawn yells

Down the hall Spike hears Katie cry. He growls in response then slowly he smiles smelling a few familiar scents. 'Man Peaches is going to be pissed' he shakes his head

Suddenly the exam room door slams open to show an obviously pissed of vampire and two Slayers. Katie's screams slow down to whimpers.

"Summers" Forrest says angrily

"Daddy" Katie smiles through her tears

"PUT HER DOWN" Angel says his voice deadly

"Don't" Walsh orders looking at Graham

"Graham she's just a baby" Buffy says "she wouldn't hurt anyone."

Graham looks at Buffy then at the child looking at him tearfully

"Don't put her down... that's an order" Forrest tells Graham

"I am overridding that order" a new voice says "Put the child down Graham" they look to see Riley entering the room "NOW" he orders

"I'm doing what you should have done Iowa when you found out about the kid being a hostile" Forrest says

"The kid is not a hostile" Riley replies "and my private life is none of your business Forrest."

Graham sees the pleading look in the child's eyes and makes up his mind "Ri's right. She's just a kid." he sets the little girl down. "I won't help you hurt a child."

Katie smiles at Graham then runs over to her father "Daddy"

Angel picks up his daughter "You two OK?" he asks looking at Katie and Dawn.

Dawn nods "They actually treated us pretty decent up until a while ago" she goes to Buffy's side.

Katie hugs her father barely aware that he's still in his 'funny' face "Missed you Daddy" she says kissing his cheek

"I missed you too baby" Angel replies before handing the child over to Buffy. "You messed with the wrong vampire" he growls "no one messes with my children."

Buffy sees the Angelus look in her love's eyes. "Katie, Dawn take Giles and the others to where Spike is." she hands the child to Dawn.

"You'll need this" Riley says tossing them his access card.

"Cool" Xander says as they walk away leaving the vampire, Slayer, Riley alone with Professor Walsh, Graham and Forrest.

"What did you mean by 'my children'?" Walsh asks

"God you people are idiots" Buffy says

"I sired Spike... he's my childe. Katie is my biological child. I have had enough of people messing with my family" Angel growls going towards Forrest he grabs his by the front of his shirt lifting him off the floor. "Be glad I don't kill people anymore because I would enjoy killing you" he tosses him across the room. He turns to Walsh his eyes golden "You go anywhere near my family... I won't be so nice."

Dawn leads Faith and Xander down the hall to the cell that Spike is impatiently waiting. "Bloody hell get me out of here" Spike demands

Faith grins at her boyfriend as Xander runs the security card through the lock. "I can't leave you alone for a minute"

Spike shrugs with a faint smile "So where are Peaches and Summers?"

"Arguing with Walsh" Xander answers

"She deserves it" Dawn states "she tried to stick Katie"

Katie looks at her 'brother' her eyes wide "Katie no wike mean wady"

Spike smiles ruffling the child's hair "We should go get Summers and Angelus and head out."

Returning to the room they find Angel and Buffy glaring at Walsh and Forrest. "You ever go near my sister, my daughter, or even Spike I will do some more damage. Stay away from my friends and family." Buffy says her voice cold and deadly. She looks at Angel "We should go." they walk out of the room to find the others waiting.

Katie grins at her father "Daddy" she says holding her arms out to Angel. Once in his arms she wraps her arms around his neck "Go home now?" she yawns looking at her mother

"Yeah Katie girl time to go home" Buffy smiles stroking her daughter's cheek with her finger.

"Uh what are we going to tell Mom?" Dawn asks suddenly

Buffy groans "We'll figure that one out later. Lets just get out of here" she looks at Riley "You coming?"

"I better take care of things here"

Buffy nods "Thanks Riley"

"You should get going before the others get back" Riley suggests. He watches as the group walks away.

"Come in" Dawn calls

Buffy opens the door to find her sister on her bed writing in her journal. "Hey" she greets sitting beside Dawn

"Hi"

"You OK?" Buffy asks stroking Dawn's hair

Dawn nods "How's Katie?"

"She's good. Thanks for helping Spike take care of her"

"Hey she's my niece" Dawn grins

Buffy smiles "Yeah she is"

"Buffy what would they have done to Katie?" Dawn asks sitting up

"I'm not sure. I've seen what they've done to demons. It wasn't good"

"Buffy?"

"Yeah"

"I was so scared" Dawn whispers tears starting to fall

"I know and I'm sorry that this all happened." Buffy hugs her sister

Buffy enters the darkened bedroom looking towards the window she sees Angel sitting in the rocking chair with their daughter on his lap. "Angel?"

"She's asleep." he says softly looking at Buffy resting his cheek on Katie's head "How's Dawn?"

"Also asleep." Buffy sighs sitting down on the bed "She OK?"

Angel nods "Fast asleep." he stands moving to put the little girl down in her bed.

Katie's eyes flutter open whimpering she clings to her father. "No Daddy."

"Shh its OK" Angel soothes trying to calm the little girl down

Katie clings to him then looks at her mother over his shoulder "Mommy" she holds out a hand as she clings to her father's neck with her other arm.

Angel stands joining Buffy on the bed pulling Buffy close as they cradle the little girl between them. He presses his lips to Katie's hair looking at Buffy

Katie sighs sleepily snuggling close to her parents

Buffy reaches laces her fingers with Angel's and smiles slightly she closes her eyes feeling safe in her bedroom with her love and their child.

"Mommy. Daddy" Katie whimpers thrashing between Angel and Buffy

Angel opens his eyes to find his daughter in the middle of a nightmare "Shh Katie its OK" he soothes rubbing the little girl's back

"Angel?" Buffy yawns "Katie having a nightmare?"

"Daddy" Katie opens her eyes tears falling.

Angel nods standing with the sobbing child in his arms he walks the floor purring comfortingly. Finally the little girl stops crying and drifts off to sleep. Angel joins Buffy on the bed cradling the little girl close.

"She asleep?" Buffy asks

Angel nods "You should get some more sleep."

"Angel?"

"Hmm?"

"Do you think we'll ever have both our babies with us?"

"I don't know Buffy. I hope so"

"I think we will" Buffy yawns resting her head on Angel's shoulder "One day we will... one day" she mumbles

Chapter 31

Angel walks down the stairs into the livingroom where he finds Katie on the floor with Dawn coloring.

Katie looks up at her father and grins "Daddy up" she says happily scrambling to her feet she throws herself into her father's arms

"Hi baby did you have a good sleep?" Angel asks kissing her forehead

Katie shrugs "Daddy cowor wiwf me an' Dawnie?"

"After I eat" Angel promises

"Katie hungry"

Angel smiles "Well then lets get you something to eat. Dawn you want anything?"

"No thanks" Dawn replies

Angel nods carrying Katie into the kitchen "So what do you want Katie?"

"Cookie" Katie demands

Angel chuckles "Just like Mommy huh" he starts to set the little girl in the highchair

"No Daddy" Katie protests

Angel shifts Katie against his hip opening the fridge taking out a container of blood he pours some into a mug and grabs a cookie out of the cookie jar "Here you go"

"Thank you Daddy" Katie kisses his cheek resting her head against his shoulder she takes a bite out of the cookie

"Your welcome sweetie" Angel says taking a drink from the mug

"Daddy wook" Katie says holding up a picture

Angel smiles at the Crayon drawing "Good job baby"

Katie notices her mother standing in the doorway of the livingroom talking on the phone "Mommy"

"Just a sec Wills" Buffy covers the phone with her hand "What Katie?"

"Wook Mommy" Katie holds up her picture

"Wow its beautiful babygirl"

"Mommy cowor wiwf me"

"Later baby OK. I'm talking to Willow"

" 'tay Mommy" Katie turns her attention back to her coloring.

The front door opens "I'm home" Joyce calls

"Gamma" Katie says happily jumping up she rushes over to Joyce hugging her legs

"Katie that's a big greeting" Joyce laughs picking up her Granddaughter

"Hi Mom" Dawn says walking down the stairs

Joyce notices Angel sitting on the couch reading "Hello Angel"

Angel smiles "Good to see you Joyce"

"Gamma Katie dwawing"

"Me, Katie and Spike were kidnapped" Dawn tells her mother

"What?!" Joyce exclaims "what? how?"

Buffy enters the foyer "Hi Mom"

"What's this about the kids and Spike being kidnapped?" Joyce demands

Buffy winces sitting beside Angel on the couch "One of the commandos found out about Katie. They broke into the house and grabbed them"

"Riley's men?" Joyce asks

"Riley didn't know about it. His boss knew he'd protest so they gave him the weekend off."

"Dawn are you OK?" Joyce asks

"I'm fine Mom. Spike kept them from hurting us."

"Why'd they kidnap them?"

"Uh Riley and I got into a pretty loud fight at the Frat house. Forrest must have overheard it."

"Argument about what?" Joyce asks

Angel and Buffy look at each other "Dawn why don't you take Katie upstairs to play" Buffy suggests

"But" Dawn protests

"I'll give you twenty bucks to keep an eye on her until we're done" Buffy bribes

"Fine" Dawn grumbles taking the little girl from Joyce "come on Katie lets go play" she carries the little girl up the stairs

"What's going on?" Joyce demands

"Mom, Angel and I have been doing some research"

"Into what?" Joyce asks

Buffy looks at her hands then her mother "The twins birth."

"Why?" Joyce asks

"William was born alive Mom"

"Buffy..."

"Joyce we think he was." Angel says

"Buffy he's dead we buried him"

Buffy shakes her head "We buried an empty casket"

"How do you..." seeing the guilty looks on their faces "You dug him up?!"

"We had to find out Mom" Buffy says

"Find out what?" Joyce asks

"Joyce we looked into some of the records... there are a few things off about what they wrote."

"How so?"

"Mom when they knocked me out I was out within seconds. Most medications wouldn't have knocked me out that fast."

"We looked through the records and they say that they gave Buffy a mild sedative."

"Why would they say that they gave her a mild sedative when she was unconcious?"

"Mom" Buffy looks at Angel "William was born alive."

"Buffy you don't know that" Joyce argues

"Mom I heard him cry then they knocked me out." Buffy insists "Then there's Katie"

"What about Katie?"

"Joyce have you ever seen Katie space out and then start crying for no reason?"

Joyce nods "She's done it a few times, but all children cry for no reason."

Angel shakes his head "Joyce I don't think so. Katie has been showing signs of a psyhic link to someone"

"What about it being one of you two she's connected too?"

"We thought that but Katie started crying the other day we thought Angel was injured"

"But I wasn't. I haven't been injured in a few weeks."

"And neither was I. Katie kept saying 'he's hurt' it wasn't Angel"

"Or Spike" Angel adds

"And so you think it was William who was injured" Joyce states

Angel nods "We looked through the hospital records and found that a baby John Doe was checked out of the hospital the night the twins were born."

"So you think someone in the hospital lied?" Joyce asks

Buffy sighs "I'm not sure but Mom it has too many odd coincidence. I mean after I was attacked that night I felt them move. Then the fact that I heard him cry and seconds later they sedate me. Mom none of us ever saw his body and the fact that his casket is empty? Something is going on and I have to find out what."

"Buffy are you sure about this?"

Buffy nods "I need to Mom. This has been bothering me since they were born. It feels off not to have them together."

"How are you going to find out where William is?"

Angel squeezes Buffy's hand "We'll just have to look for him until we find him. Or at least the truth"

Joyce nods "Alright if you both want to do this then go for it."

Buffy goes over and hugs her mother "Thank you Mom"

After a moment Joyce asks "What are your plans?"

"Katie stop it" Dawn says annoyed

Angel chuckles "I better go save Dawn from Katie" he stands heading up the stairs. He knocks on Dawn's bedroom door

"Its open" Dawn calls

Angel opens the door to find Katie running in circles "She causing trouble?" he chuckles

Katie grins stopping in her tracks "Hi Daddy" she throws herself at her father's legs

Angel chuckles "Hi sweetie having fun with Dawn?" he asks kneeling before his daughter

Katie nods happily "Dawn an' me pwaying"

Angel tickles the child's stomach causing the little girl to giggle uncontrollably "I can see that"

"Daddy" Katie squirms "Stop" she giggles hugging her father's neck. "Daddy Katie hungwy"

Angel stands with his daughter in his arms "How about we go get you a snack"

"Katie have cookie?"

Angel groans "No."

"Pease Daddy?" she gives him her best puppy dog look

Angel turns hearing a giggle from the doorway. He finds Buffy standing there "I can't believe she inherited that look"

Buffy shrugs "She's our girl"

"Mommy Katie hungwy"

"Angel give her something decent. Spike always lets her have something with sugar"

"Not surprised" Angel sighs carrying Katie out of the bedroom

Chapter 32

"MOMMY" Katie yells angrily her eyes flashing amber as she stomps her foot. "No bed" she shrieks trying to evade her mother

"Katie you need to go to bed"

"Daddy be here soon" Katie replies "wanna stay up 'til Daddy gets here" Katie yells

Buffy rubs her temples "Katie Daddy won't be here until later."

Katie stares at her mother "KATIE WANT DADDY" she screams her eyes burning as she stomps her foot a loud crack resounds in the livingroom.

"Katherine Angela Summers" Buffy warns "want have I told you about your temper." she picks up her daughter

"NO" Katie shrieks kicking at her mother "DOWN"

"What is going on?" Joyce asks entering the livingroom to find Buffy struggling to keep Katie in her arms

"WANT DADDY" Katie screams tears falling

"Katie do you want a spanking?" Joyce asks her granddaughter sternly

Buffy looks at her mother "Mom you know Angel and I don't approve of spanking Katie."

"You can't let her get away with whatever she wants" Joyce says

"We don't" Buffy retorts "Shh Katie" Buffy walks the floor her sobbing daughter clinging tightly to her.

"Katie sorry Mommy" the little girl whimpers

"I know." Buffy kisses her hair walking up the stairs to their room she settles in the rocking chair cradling Katie in her arms.

Katie's sobs taper off as she listens to the familiar sound of her mother's heart beating beneath her ear. "Mommy" she sighs sleepily

"Shh babygirl go to sleep" Buffy says stroking the little girl's hair soothingly. She looks up sensing her mother standing in the doorway. "Mom I know you don't approve of the fact we don't spank Katie"

"Buffy I just don't want Katie to think she can get away with whatever she wants." Joyce sits on the bed

"I know." Buffy looks at her dozing daughter "she'll learn."

Joyce sees the sadness in her daughter's eyes "Buffy what's wrong?"

Buffy shrugs "When she's like this I think about what it would have been like to have both of them together." she blinks back tears "Its their second birthday and they still aren't together."

"Oh Buffy"

Buffy sits there rocking her daughter to sleep.

Katie opens her eyes sitting up she sees her parents asleep on the other bed. Seeing her father she grins scrambling out of her own bed going to the bigger bed she shakes her father "Daddy" she says insistantly. She giggles as she sees her father's face shift involutarily.

Angel opens his eyes "What Katie?"

"Daddy funny face"

Angel shakes his head allowing his human features to return "Katie?"

"Up" Katie demands

Angel picks the little girl up setting her between him and Buffy "Go back to sleep"

Katie smiles kissing her father's cheek "Love you Daddy" she yawns snuggling between her parents she goes back to sleep.

The group sit around the livingroom watching the little girl chatter with her father. Telling him all about her week. "An' den Uncle 'ander an' me went to da park an' played in da sandbox."

"She buried my shoes" Xander complains

"Den Faif show Katie how to stand on my head."

Faith grins "She still needs someone to hold her feet so she doesn't fall."

"And what am I teaching you?" Dawn prompts

Katie grins "Dawnie showed Katie how to count."

"She can get to five."

"Good job" Angel says tugging on one of Katie's pigtails.

"Katie show Daddy how you count." Buffy says

" 'kay" Katie grins holding up her hand "One... two" she scrunches up her nose "fee..." she looks at her fingers thoughtfully "fow... fife"

"And how old are you Katie?" Dawn asks

Katie looks at her fingers then grins "Katie two" she holds up two fingers proudly

"Wow" Angel says "that's great"

"We're going to start on six to ten and the first of the alphabet"

"Before we know it she'll be reading" Buffy says

"Daddy" Katie tugs on her father's shirt

"What baby?"

"Can we go play outside?" she asks pleadingly

Angel smiles "Sure lets go play out back for a bit" he stands with Katie in his arms.

"Dessert will be in about twenty minutes" Joyce informs Angel

"We'll just be out back" Angel walks out the back door.

Angel sits on the edge of Katie's bed watching as she sleeps.

"You managed to get her to go to bed" Buffy smiles

"She wore herself out" Angel chuckles

"She's been acting up the last few nights" Buffy informs him "she cracked a hole in the floor last night."

"She's getting stronger"

"Mmm" Buffy nods "she's also getting more temperatmental and stubborn"

Angel smiles slightly "So have you heard from Riley?"

"He sent Katie a birthday present but otherwise" she shakes her head "he feels really bad about what happened."

"Where is he?"

"Some jungle somewhere. They sent him on a new mission after Forrest and Walsh were killed. Actually he's on no contact with the outside. The postage says that Katie's gift came from Iowa. I think he had arranged for his parents to send it." she stands going over to the dresser she picks up a small music box she hands it to Angel.

Angel lifts the lid listening briefly to the music. "How's Katie taking his absence?"

"Pretty good. She really liked Riley"

Angel nods "I know"

"I let Katie open his gift when it arrived last week... she fell asleep with it." The two are distracted from their conversation when they hear Katie thrash and mumble in her sleep.

"No. No nice."

"Shh Katie" Angel soothes

"Bad. Stop." Katie opens her eyes still stuck in her nightmare she cries uncontrollably for whoever to stop.

Buffy gasps seeing the amber gaze of her daughter's eyes as Katie struggles to get away from her father. Seeing Angel having a hard time restraining the little girl Buffy goes to his side. "Katie stop."

Hearing the familiar voice Katie's eyes change in recognition "Mommy" she stops struggling tears still falling she holds her arms out to her mother.

"Shh" Buffy takes Katie in her arms

The child snuggles close "Mommy, Daddy"

Angel wraps his arms around Buffy and Katie "Its OK baby"

"Love you Mommy. Love you Daddy" Katie sniffles

"We love you too" Buffy says

Buffy looks at Angel tears clouding her vision "She's so fragile when she's like this" she strokes Katie's hair gently

"I know."

"How long is she going to be able to handle this Angel? She gets so depressed after these episodes"

"We'll find him Buffy. They'll be back together someday."

"She misses him so much"

"I know"

"I wonder what he's like" Buffy sighs "I wish he's happy" she looks at Katie "but I doubt he is." she rests her head on Angel's shoulder "He's just a baby Angel. Why would the Council or anyone hurt a baby." she chokes back a sob

"I don't know Buffy" Angel hugs her

"I want our little boy back" she looks at Angel "I want us to be a family again"

"We never stopped. We'll always be a family" Angel assures "always"

Buffy looks at him and smiles through her tears "That we will my Angel."

Working on a sequel crossover with my Earth Final Conflict story... another story with two versions. :)
