"THIS IS OUR CHANCE LAURA, OUR CHANCE!"

Who knew when Luke uttered those words, we would get to see the most gloriously romantic story EVER on GH? It had looked like things were pretty hopeless, but when Scotty found Laura's letter to Luke and knocked him overboard on his Wedding Day to Jennifer, it turned out to be the BEGINNING of Luke and Laura's dream to be together. From the moment his hand grabbed her ankle on the docks, begging for her help, I knew that this would be a story that I couldn't miss. I think Luke and Laura's first days alone together in those sleazy motels were among my very favorite moments. Talk about sexual tension, romance, and longing. Whew! These scenes had it ALL!

LOVERS ON THE RUN

As they were running away, Laura had to stop and rest. Luke realized that the copies of Frank Smith's little black book had gotten destroyed in the water. Their only choice was to go back to Frank Smith's office and steal the original. Luke and Laura hid in a closet while waiting to steal the black book.

LUKE: WELL, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND THE NIGHT SOMEPLACE.
LAURA: WHERE CAN WE GO?
LUKE: I DON'T KNOW. A MOTEL.
LAURA: A MOTEL?
LUKE: YEAH.
LAURA: DON'T GET ANY IDEAS. I MEAN, WHATEVER SCOTTY ACCUSED ME OF, I'M A LADY AND I RESPECT MY MARRIAGE VOWS.
(Luke is laughing hard)
LAURA: WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT?
LUKE: LAURA, I ALMOST DROWNED TODAY. AND IF FRANK SMITH FINDS US, HE IS GOING TO KILL US BOTH. AND YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR MARRIAGE VOWS?
LAURA:(Laura smiles because it is funny)OKAY, OKAY. LOOK, WE'RE RUNNING AWAY TOGETHER, BUT WE ARE GOING TO SLEEP IN SEPARATE BEDS.
Luke steals the little black book and Frank Smith almost catches them and says that he believes that Luke is really dead.
LUKE: DIDN'T YOU HEAR FRANK SMITH? HE IS CONVINCED THAT LUKE SPENCER HAS GONE TO HIS REWARD. THAT MEANS EVERYONE THINKS I'M DEAD. NOBODY IS GOING TO BE LOOKING FOR ME BABY. I'M FREE JUST LIKE HUCK FINN. HA! HA!
LAURA: DON'T EXPECT ME TO HOP ON YOUR RAFT AND RIDE DOWN THE RIVER WITH YOU.
Who said that Laura didn't have a sense of humor? She delivered that line flawlessly and the more she was with Luke, the more her personality came out. Luke then planned to get money from his disco safe but wasn't successful.

THE FIRST SLEAZY MOTEL

Luke and Laura had stopped off for some fast food on the way to the motel. Once there, Laura made note of how cheap it was.

LUKE: LOOK, I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN. I DID PROMISE YOU A COUPLE OF HAMBURGERS, SOME FRENCH FRIES, AND SOME CHEAP WINE TO CELEBRATE.
LAURA: WHAT ARE WE CELEBRATING?
LUKE: WE ARE CELEBRATING BEING ALIVE AND TOGETHER.
LAURA: THERE'S ONLY ONE BED.
LUKE: HOW MANY DO YOU WANT?
LAURA: I'M NOT SLEEPING IN THE SAME BED WITH YOU, LUKE.
LUKE: WHO ASKED YOU TO?
LAURA: YOU KNOW, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE WASTED MONEY ON THIS WINE. I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH.
LUKE: LAURA, DON'T EVER ACCUSE ME OF RUNNING AWAY WITH YOU FOR YOUR MONEY.
LAURA: CAN I HELP IT HOW MUCH MONEY I HAD?
LUKE: (teasing) YOU KNOW, YOU WILL NEVER MEASURE UP TO JENNIFER. YOU HAVE NO HOUSE.. YOU HAVE NO MONEY.. YOU HAVE NO SAILBOAT. I GOTTA BE OUT OF MY MIND.
Laura starts to complain that there is no ketchup for her french fries and Luke suggests that she dip them in the wine. Laura starts to get concerned about Luke's head wound.
LAURA: HOW'S YOUR HEAD.
LUKE: OH, THANKS FOR ASKING. I FORGOT ABOUT IT. I GUESS I DON'T HAVE A CONCUSSION.
LAURA: SO WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO SLEEP?
LUKE: WILL YOU PLEASE GET YOUR MIND OFF SEX!
LAURA: LUKE!
LUKE: LOOK, I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS HONEYMOON, I DIDN'T PLAN THIS HONEYMOON. SO LETS JUST MAKE THE BEST OF IT. EITHER THAT, OR YOU GO BACK TO PRINCE CHARMING!
L&L start arguing about Luke sleeping in the bathtub. Luke tells her the tub is only 4 feet long and that he was going to take a shower and then they could discuss which side of the BED that he would be sleeping on. The next scene shows that Luke ended up in the bathtub and accidentally turned on the shower with his foot...LOL! Luke went to get in bed with a sleeping Laura. I loved how Luke just stared at her in awe. He picked up her hand and kissed it and said
LUKE: YOU MIGHT BE AN ANGEL, BUT D@MN I WISH YOU HAD MORE MONEY.
Then Luke went to sleep. The next morning Luke awoke and turned over to face Laura. That beautiful, romantic background music. Luke had always dreamed of being with Laura and to see the look on his face in waking up with her was beautiful.
(Luke can't resist reaching out to touch Laura's face and she awakens)
LAURA: LUKE! LUKE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!
LUKE: SLEEPING.
LAURA: IN MY BED?
LUKE: OUR BED.
LAURA: WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR? IT'S ALL WET.
LUKE: WELL, YOU SEE, AS PER YOUR REQUEST, I WAS SLEEPING IN THE TUB. I TURNED OVER, MY FOOT HIT THE SHOWER AND THE WATER CAME DOWN ON TOP OF ME.
LAURA:( Laura starts laughing) SORRY. I FEEL KIND OF MEAN ABOUT THE BED.
LUKE: DO YOU REALLY.
Laura tells Luke that they cannot continue sleeping in the same bed when Luke shares his feelings with her. I LOVE this scene.
LUKE: DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW IT FEELS FOR ME TO WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU?
LAURA: THAT'S WHAT I MEAN, LUKE. THIS ISN'T GOING TO WORK.
LUKE: YOU KNOW WHAT WOKE ME UP? YOUR PERFUME.
LAURA: I DON'T WEAR PERFUME.
LUKE: THEN YOU SURE HAVE SOME PRETTY SMELLING SKIN, LADY.
LAURA:(notices how Luke is looking at her) DON'T DO THIS, OKAY? DON'T MAKE LOVE TO ME.
LUKE: I'M NOT TOUCHING YOU.
LAURA: YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
LUKE: OH, I WANT YOU SO MUCH I ACHE. BUT LAURA, WE DIDN'T CHOOSE THIS. FATE HAS PUT US TOGETHER.
Laura brings up Scotty and reminds Luke that she is married and that she can't be with him.
LUKE: I UNDERSTAND. I KNOW, I KNOW. BUT JUST DON'T EVER EXPECT ME TO NOT LOOK AT YOU WITH LOVE IN MY EYES BECAUSE IT WON'T WORK. I HAVE A HABIT OF IT. I LOVE YOU AND MY EYES WILL ALWAYS TELL YOU THAT. YOU KNOW, I'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING WITH YOU HERE LIKE THIS....WELL NOT JUST LIKE THIS. I MEAN, I DIDN'T EXPECT TO BE ON TOP OF THE COVERS WHILE YOU WERE UNDER THE SHEETS.
LAURA: (SMILING) YOU ARE A TERRIBLE MAN.
Laura wraps the sheet around her and she goes to sleep in the bathtub. She soon decides to go sleep beside Luke. She covers Luke up and sits beside him resting her head on the headboard. The next morning, Laura's body falls forward on Luke.
LAURA: LUKE!
LUKE: WHAT'S THE MATTER? YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE BATHTUB?
LAURA: IT WAS AWFUL.
LUKE: THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS BLANKET.
LAURA: YOUR WELCOME.
LUKE: YOU KNOW, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE THAT I HAVE SPENT A WHOLE NIGHT WITH A WOMAN AND NEVER TOUCHED HER.
LAURA: YOU TOUCHED ME TWICE.
LUKE: I DID?
LAURA: YOU WERE ASLEEP. YOU TALK IN YOUR SLEEP. DID YOU KNOW THAT?
LUKE: WHAT DID I SAY?
LAURA: MY NAME.
LUKE: SORRY.
LAURA: LUKE, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
LUKE: I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BABY, BUT I'M GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF COLD SHOWERS.
LAURA: LUKE, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A TEASE.
LUKE: LAURA, I KNOW THAT. I KNOW YOU'RE NOT. BUT, IT'S KILLING ME BECAUSE I KNOW YOU WANT ME AS MUCH AS I WANT YOU. LAURA, PLEASE TAKE OFF YOUR RING?
LAURA: I CAN'T. I'M STILL MARRIED TO SCOTTY..
This would be only one of MANY times that Luke would ask Laura to take off her rings through the course of their adventure.

Luke is sleeping in a chair when Laura awakes and feels sorry for him. Laura tells him that they should sleep in shifts. Laura, dressed only in her slip, is really tempting Luke.

LUKE: LAURA, CAN'T WE PLEASE SLEEP IN THE SAME BED.
LAURA: NO, NO.
LUKE: I WON'T TOUCH YOU. I PROMISE I WON'T TOUCH YOU. LAURA, I DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH EVEN IF I WANTED TO.
LAURA:( Laura doesn't buy this...LOL) NO.
LUKE: OKAY. OKAY YOU WIN. BUT I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING. THIS WILL NOT GO ON FOREVER. WE CAN HAVE TWIN BEDS, WE CAN HAVE TWIN ROOMS. D@MN IT, LAURA. I AM A MAN AND I WANT YOU!! AND FOR THE TIME BEING, I LOVE THIS BATHTUB!
Luke stomps off to sleep in the tub. I must make note of the fact that Luke was shirtless in that scene and he was just so sexy. ...the way he strutted over to Laura with his hands on his hips... those slim hips, low cut pants.....

Luke decides that Laura would be better off going back home, but Laura wanted to stay with Luke.
LUKE: LAURA, THIS IS TOO HARD. THIS IS TOO TOUGH. I CAME HOME LAST NIGHT AND YOU WERE LYING IN THIS BED, BUT LAURA, YOU KICKED OFF THE COVERS.
LAURA: LUKE!
LUKE: LISTEN, YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL. DON'T YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I WANTED TO RIP THIS 3 PIECE SUIT OFF OF ME AND JUST GET IN BED WITH YOU? BUT I DIDN'T DO IT. I PLAYED THE SAINT, AS MR. SMITH CALLED ME. AND I PUT.....I PUT THAT BLANKET OVER YOU.
LAURA: I WAS PRETENDING TO BE ASLEEP. I THOUGHT IF YOU KNEW I WAS AWAKE....OH, LUKE.
Laura makes a BIG mistake by taking Luke's medallion and pawning it for 150 dollars. Jennifer paid 1000 dollars for it and she inscribed their names on the back of it. Luke knew that people could find out he was alive. L&L decide to move on to another motel.

SLEAZY MOTEL NUMBER 2

LUKE:(holding her face between his hands) LAURA, DO YOU KNOW HOW TOUGH THIS IS? WANTING YOU SO MUCH AND NOT ALLOWING MYSELF TO TOUCH YOU?
LAURA: YOU'RE TOUCHING ME NOW.
LUKE: THIS DOESN'T COUNT. THIS IS JUST A LITTLE COMFORT BETWEEN WEARY TRAVELERS. THIS IS NOT THE WAY I WANT TO TOUCH YOU.
LAURA: LUKE, PLEASE.
LUKE: I KNOW, I KNOW. LOOK, I'M SORRY.
LAURA: I'M SORRY I'M MAKING THIS MORE DIFFICULT FOR YOU.
LUKE: WELL, YOU'RE WITH ME AND THAT HELPS. BUT IF WHAT YOU REALLY WANT IS TO GO BACK TO SCOTT, GO AHEAD. YOU'D BETTER GO NOW.
LAURA: WE REALLY HAVE A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP. NOBODY WOULD EVER UNDERSTAND IT.
LUKE: NOBODY HAS TO UNDERSTAND IT. IT BELONGS TO US.
L&L talk about how hot the motel is. Laura wants to get a bath, but first brings up the sailboat seduction.
LAURA: YOU KNOW, I STILL REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID TO ME THAT DAY ON THE SAILBOAT AND I REMEMBER HOW IT FELT WHEN YOU TURNED AWAY FROM ME.
LUKE: I GUESS I KIND OF BROUGHT THIS ON MYSELF DIDN'T I? I TALKED YOU INTO COMING WITH ME.
LAURA: YEAH, I CAME. WHICH PROBABLY GAVE YOU THE WRONG IDEA.
LUKE: OH, NO LAURA. NO. I DON'T HAVE THE WRONG IDEA. I'VE SPENT TOO MUCH TIME WITH YOU. I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE KINDS OF ILLUSIONS LEFT. YOU SAID THAT YOU WANTED ME ONCE BEFORE. YOU ALSO SAID THAT YOU WANTED TO BE TRUE TO WHAT'S HIS NAME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT I'M GOING TO TRY TO RESPECT IT....AND I'M DOING MY BEST TO KEEP MY HANDS OFF OF YOU.
(Luke moves closer to her)
LAURA: IT ISN'T VERY EASY IS IT?
LUKE: LOVING YOU HAS NEVER BEEN EASY FOR ME. BUT I DON'T REMEMBER ANY OTHER WAY TO LIVE.
LAURA: YOU DON'T?
Luke and Laura slowly come together to kiss. Their lips barely touch when there is a knock at the door. ARGGGGG!!! I remember wanting Laura to kiss him so bad...LOL! The lady that ran the place was at the door.

Soon tragedy would strike when Luke read in the paper that Ruby had been beaten. She was in the hospital and Luke just had to see her.
LUKE: RUBY IS THE ONLY PERSON OUTSIDE OF MY SISTER WHO CARES ABOUT ME IN THIS WHOLE WORLD!
LAURA: SO YOU'RE GOING TO LEAVE ME HERE TO WORRY MYSELF SICK OVER WHETHER YOU ARE DEAD OR ALIVE. IS THAT IT?
(Luke grabs Laura hard and kisses her VERY hard...a nice long, passionate kiss.)
LUKE: (finally pulls away) NO, NO, I'M NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR THIS.
LAURA: YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
LUKE: I KNOW I SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE IT BUT.....
LAURA: I SAID YOU DON'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE. I KISSED YOU TOO.
LUKE: YES.

Laura tells Luke the layout of the hospital and Luke asks Laura for another kiss before he goes. Luke and Laura kiss again and Luke goes to GH and dresses as a surgeon and sneaks in to see Ruby. Ruby was going to be okay. But Luke knew that Frank Smith hurt Ruby to lure him out of hiding. By this time Frank Smith knew Luke was really alive.

When Luke returns to Laura, he tells her that they have to get far away from PC. Laura doesn't want to leave in the clothes they are wearing without washing them first. They decide to go downstairs to wash their clothes. Laura has put together towels to cover herself. Luke can't keep his eyes off of her..

LAURA: I GUESS WE ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO SEE HOW WELL H20 WORKS.
LUKE: WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WE'RE GOING TO USE SOAP.
LAURA: CAN WE AFFORD IT?
LUKE: OF COURSE. YOU AND ME, OF COURSE WE CAN. WHATEVER WE DO, WE DO ALL THE WAY......WELL, ALMOST WHATEVER WE DO, WE DO ALL THE WAY.
(Luke waits for Laura to catch the double meaning and then he starts playing with the skirt of her towel)
LAURA: LUKE!
LUKE: OH, I'M SORRY. SORRY. YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TOUGH YOU MAKE THIS ON ME.
Luke looks at her and touches her hair. Later, L&L take the clothes out and Luke makes fun of Laura's pantyhose shrinking and his pants shrinking. They laugh and have fun as Luke says he needs a towel and playfully tugs at Laura's towel. Laura gets serious and wonders about the danger they are in and Luke tries to make her feel better.
LUKE: COME ON LAURA. THIS IS AN ADVENTURE REMEMBER? THIS IS LIKE ONE OF THOSE OLD ROAD MOVIES. YOU ARE IN THE SARONG. IT'S CALLED ROAD TO RUIN.
LAURA: FUNNY.
LUKE: I THINK I'D BETTER PUT THIS ON HOT AND GET THESE CLOTHES DRY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I DON'T WANT ANYBODY TO COME IN HERE AND SEE YOU LIKE THAT.
LAURA: YEAH, I KNOW. IT'S PRETTY EMBARRASSING ISN'T IT?
LUKE: NO, I WOULDN'T SAY EMBARRASSING. I'D JUST SAY IT'S SEXY.
LAURA: LUKE...
LUKE: NO, COME ON. I MEAN IT. TO ME YOU LOOK SEXY IN ANYTHING. AND THIS DEFINITELY PROVES IT.

Luke and Laura had no idea that they were being watched by a hit man dispatched by Frank Smith to kill them. But the hit man didn't kill them. He had other agendas. Luke and Laura went back to their room to get ready to leave and Laura told Luke she was afraid of what might happen, afraid of the hit men that could come after them. Luke takes Laura's face in his hands and kisses her.

LAURA: WHAT WAS THAT FOR?
LUKE: THAT WAS FOR BEING A TERRIFIC LADY WHO KNOWS HOW TO HOLD UP UNDER PRESSURES THAT I NEVER GAVE YOU CREDIT FOR. THAT WAS FOR BEING BRAVE.
Luke tells Laura they have to leave vacation village...LOL! He slaps her on the behind. Laura looks around the room and is almost sad to leave.
LUKE: LAURA, WHAT'S THE MATTER?
LAURA: A SENTIMENTAL FOOL I GUESS.
LUKE: ABOUT THIS PLACE?
LAURA: COME ON.
LUKE: I LOVE YOU.

There really was nothing like these scenes of Luke and Laura in these motels. You have to remember, we had never seen L&L ISOLATED TOGETHER for days before and watching their one on one banter and their sexual longing for each other was just more than a viewer could ever ask for. They got to know each other, spend time together, fall more in love, and the sexual tension was UNMATCHED. I challenge anyone to watch these scenes and not be blown away.
Luke and Laura would continue to run with a hit man hot on their trail.
