I have some experience in sexing hamsters. The vulva of the female is closer to the vent and is mostly bare, except for a few hairs. The general body contour is also an aid. The male presents a tapered, elongated rear, while the females is blunter, but this may be hard to tell with long haired hamsters. Also if you turn a hamster over, if its a male, you can sometimes see its "bits." The image below may help.
