DANA EDDY'S Brick In The Wall
website
My cousin Tommy gave me his old record collection and a stereo phonograph when I was in the 6th grade. It seems he was hooked on these new-fangled tapes called 8-tracks, and he built up a pretty solid collection of them beginning with Deep Purple and Mott The Hoople to listen to as he cruised around Orange County California in his prized Volkswagen bug. (Complete with the big fat tires and U.S. mags all around.) Among the LP records he handed down to me were things like "Tommy" by The Who, Iron Butterfly: Live which had the 19 minute version of 'Inna Gadda Da Vida' on it, The Doors, Grand Funk Railroad, and of course... Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon".
He hadn't even unfolded the poster that came inside it!
I slapped that baby up on my bedroom wall and felt as if I was perhaps the coolest 11 year old kid in town. I had it facing outward so you could see the band members, not the pyramid side which I thought was rather dull. These were the guys who were all over the radio with 'Money' at the time and I listened to that album over and over and over again until I swear you could see through the vinyl like a circle of sheer gauze.
Anyway... as the years went by I devoured everything I could get my hands on by Pink Floyd. From "Umma Gumma", "Atom Heart Mother" and "Meddle" to "Animals", "Wish you Were Here" and of course, the single most explosive album of my senior year, "The Wall".
Please enjoy this small tribute to the band that taught me to really listen, and paved the way for other bands like RUSH, Queensr˙che, and others who go a bit deeper than just the suface level.
... Dana
