Public & Community related Activities
September-November 1999
Volunteer/Coordinator, Bull Creek Design Charette.
Last November, City of Austin in association with AIA Austin & School of
Architecture, UT organized a charrette to envision the conservation/development
of Bull Creek Watershed in Austin. Around 100 citizens and professionals from
different parts of the city participated which resulted in 5 different
conceptual ideas. I was a member of the organizing team led by a city official
Ms. K. Sutaria in addition to serving as a member of a charette group.
May-July 1999
Participant, Oxford Program Outreach in Barmouth, Wales.
As a part of the summer Oxford Program led by Hogg Professor at UT, Dr. Simon
Atkinson, we stayed for a week at Barmouth, a small town in Wales on the
Cardigan Bay. We interacted with the community to envision the future options
for this beach town, which was once, a great tourist destination in Wales. In
the last 3 decades, the town economy has faced a dramatic slump resulting in
homelessness and urban turmoil. Drawing on the proximity of the Snowdonia
National Park, we developed proposals to revitalize the town economy based on
the ideas on Eco-tourism and nature-consciousness.
Aug-December 1994
Participant, Ekamra Kshetra Project, Bhubaneswar, India.
As a part of a larger INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage)
study for the future development of Bhubaneswar, I was a senior member of this
student project under Oriyologist Subhasis Mohapatra to examine the ‘middle
space’ between the 2000 year-old temple town of Bhubaneswar and the 50 year-
young new town planned by Otto Koenigsberger. The objective was to search for
ways to influence its development in such a way that the two towns on two ends
of it can have a ‘symbiotic’ relationship with each other.
