There is nothing I like better than eating and sleeping. Here is one of my favorite recipes. Maybe you can get your owner to make them for you.

3 1/2 cups all purpose flour

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup rye flour

1 cup cornmeal

2 cups cracked wheat

1/2 cup nonfat dry milk

4 tsp salt

1 pkg dry yeast

1 pint chicken stock or beef broth (use more for softer dough)

1 egg mixed with 1 tsp milk (for brushing)

Warm chicken stock or beef broth to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add all dry ingredients. Knead for 3 minutes, working into a stiff dough. Roll dough into 1/4" sheet. Cut with any cookie cutter. Place on baking sheet. Beat together egg and milk, and brush mixture on biscuits. Bake on 300 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn off heat, but leave biscuits in oven over night.

Makes about 2 dozen.

And now, a little about my heritage. Did you know that "dach" means badger and of course "hund" means hound. This means I am a Badger Hound.

I was orginally bred to hunt badgers, rabbits, and foxes. I originated in medievil Europe, Germany, to be exact. Because of my sharp, long, nails, I can dig my prey out of holes without any problem.I am now the 6th most popular breed of dog in the world.

My breed comes in 3 varieties- long-haired, short-haired, and wire-haired. There are standard and miniature sizes. We have very long bodies and are extremely close to the ground-due to our short legs. We have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. I am 5 years old.

Standard "doxies" are usually about 9" tall and weigh 12 to 24 pounds. Miniature "doxies" are 5-6" tall and weigh generally under 12 pounds. I, myself, am a petite miniature.

Dachshunds have a very serious genetic defect called Canine Interverterbral Disk Disease. I must be very careful not to pull out my delicate back.

I like to have my beautiful brown hair brushed. I need to have my nails cut about once a month, they grow so fast. My long, floppy ears need to be cleaned out frequently. And oh yea, I love my bubble bath.

I bark alot and am very loud. I make an excellent watch dog. I have a very keen sense of smell and sight. I really am not big enough to hurt anyone, but I like to scare the heck out of them. We are a very spirited, sassy, playful breed, and we make excellent companions.

I have a lot of personality. Most "doxie" owners say their little friends are more human than canine. We are generally a very active breed. I love to play tug-o-war, and chase with my people.

I am smart,too-very,very smart! I understand most of the words my people say (until they start spelling). I know words like: "go, car, food, hungry, park, store, outside, bed, bug, and kitty. Sometimes I talk, too. But I don't think they understand me very well.

I like to chew things up. Maybe they bought me so many toys so I won't chew up their stuff. Sometimes I make little messes on the new carpet. (Boy, do they get mad at me!) Dachshunds are very hard to housebreak.

I am very loving, and very loyal. All I really want is a lot of love and attention. And I get it.
