Legend of the Scottish Thistle

Legend has it that, a very long time ago, when Scotland was ravaged by Viking invaders, a group of Scottish fighting men rested overnight in a field. Unknown to them, a raiding party prepared to attack them, under cover of darkness.
As the Vikings approached the encamped Scots, it was their misfortune to creep barefoot through a patch of thistles -- letting out cries of pain as the thorns pierced their soles. The Scots, having been awakened by this commotion, were alerted and able to fight off their attackers. From that day, the thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland and a symbol of all things Scottish. I proudly regard and cherish the thistle as an ancestral talisman of protection and luck.

"Nemo me impune lacessit"
"No one harms me without punishment"

I will never say never again: on January 13, 2007, I married (for the first time) the love of my life -- and he married his! Nineteen years after we met - yes, it was about time...

Hi, call me Nance -- it's friendlier -- welcome to my little home page. I created this for fun, to share a bit of myself and my diversions, and to provide links to interesting but perhaps obscure people, places and things. (Plus, the web space was free). Relax, enjoy, talk to me. Oh, and remember: never step on a thistle, nor hold it too tightly...
