Elseworlds: Young Justice: Wendy Time Part I

By The Icehole

(Front cover. Teri Jewel Jackson and Superboy are standing opposite each other, holding autograph books and pens. She is dressed in a modest blouse and a denim miniskirt; he is in his uniform.)

Teri & Superboy: (simultaneously) WOW! I'm your biggest fan!

(Page 1, panel 1. Young Justice headquarters upstate New York. The members of Young Justice have gathered in the living room. They are sitting down. Most of them are dressed in T-shirts and blue jeans. Impulse's shirt reads "Terminal Odyssey" on it. Standing opposite them is Cissie, who is also dressed in a nice blouse and miniskirt.)

Cap (N): Young Justice headquarters. The beginning. Cissie is about to make a big announcement to the others.

Robin: All right, we're all here now. So what's the big news?

Cissie: Get ready… I've been invited to do a guest shot on a television show…

Impulse: Really? Which one?

(Panel 2.)

Cissie: Wendy the Werewolf Slayer.

Empress, Wonder Girl and Secret: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

(Panel 3. The others stand, surrounding Cissie.)

Impulse: You're going on Wendy the Werewolf Slayer? Kewl!

Superboy: Cissie, you've GOT to take me with you! I'd die to meet her!

(Panel 4. Cissie smiles nervously at Superboy.)

Cissie: Well, the thing is this… I only get to bring one guest other than my mother… However, I'm going to be on the set for 14 days… what I want to do is rotate each of you every two days with Traya.

Impulse: Seems fair to me.

(Panel 5. Robin turns away from the group, uneasy.)

Robin: I can't go, Cis. Superboy can have my days.

Cissie: I understand, Rob.

Superboy: You mean that, Rob?

(Panel 6. Robin and Superboy are face-to-face.)

Robin: Yea. I'm not the kind to be in the high-profile things.

Superboy: Hey, I really appreciate it, Rob.

(Page 2, panel 1. Hollywood. From a distance we see the famous white Hollywood sign on the hill.)

Cap (N): Meanwhile, across the country, in Hollywood, other things are taking place…

(Panel 2. The dressing room of Teri Jewel Jackson. She is sitting in a chair with a smock around her. Standing next to her is a makeup Artist. The Artist is a middle-aged woman wearing a nice blouse and a pair of pants. She is holding several brushes in one hand, and another in the other hand, which she is working on Teri's eyebrows with. Nearby there is a vanity with a mirror, and a rack filled with various articles of clothing in Teri's size.)

Artist: Just remember what the Spanish say, "Nesisito sufrir mucho para ser bonita."

(Panel 3. The Artist stops working on Teri Jewel and then Teri looks at herself in the mirror.)

Teri: Yea, I have to look my best for the cameras… I just wish it didn't take forever to put the makeup on.

Artist: Just be glad you're not Leonard… his makeup takes 4 hours to put on correctly.

(Panel 4. The Artist removes Teri Jewel's smock revealing that Teri Jewel is wearing a low-cut red blouse and a very short miniskirt.)

Teri: Well, here goes…

(Panel 5. She goes out to the stage area where we see her meet Javier Sanchez and Joe Westin.)

Teri: All right, I'm ready now.

Joe: They've run into some prop problems, T.J. We're on break now.

(Panel 6.)

Javier: Have you heard what they're planning for sweeps week?

Teri: If it's me in a skimpy bikini again, I'm not doing it.

(Page 3, panel 1. Joe pulls out a copy of Sports Illustrated. On the cover is Cissie King-Jones, wielding a bow and arrow, firing at a target.)

Joe: No, nothing like that. We're having a special guest star.

Teri: Cissie King-Jones?

(Panel 2.)

Teri: Joe, have you actually tried her out to see if she can act?

Joe: Don't worry, T.J.. We've written two roles for her, if she stinks her role will be an unspeaking one.

(Panel 3. Teri Jewel covers her face to say "I don't like where this is going.")

Teri: Joe, do you remember the fiasco we had when you hired that football player, what's his name…

Joe: Don't worry, T.J. I have all the bases covered this time.

(Panel 4. Teri Jewel removes her hand from her face.)

Teri: Well, I guess ratings can't slip lower than they already have of late…

Joe: Trust me, Teri. I've got the knack.

(Page 4, panel 1. We see an airplane from afar. Nearby, the members of Young Justice are riding in the supercycle.)

Cap (N): And so…

(Panel 2. Inside the airplane, Cissie, Bonnie and Traya are sitting next to each other. Traya is at the window, Cissie and Bonnie are in the middle and aisle seats, respectively. All of them are wearing nice blouses and either skirts or pants.)

Cissie: I've never flown first class before. This is wonderful!

Bonnie: Yea. They've treated us really nice. I hope this is a sign of things to come.

(Panel 3. Traya looks out the window.)

Traya: We're being followed.

Cissie: Huh?

(Panel 4. Cissie looks out the window to see the members of Young Justice waving at her.)

Cissie: Uh-oh.

Bonnie: Well, looks like your friends want to wish you good luck on your acting endeavor…

(Panel 5. Traya waves out the window.)

Traya: Kewl!

Cissie: Uh… right.

(Page 5, panel 1. Hollywood again. In a lobby at LAX airport we see a man dressed in a chauffeur's outfit holding up a sign reading "Cissie King-Jones" on it. Cissie, Bonnie and Traya approach the man.)

Cap (N): And so…

Man: Welcome to Los Angles. I'll be your chauffeur for the stay. My name is Mr. Bruton.

Traya: A limo? Wow!

(Panel 2. Cissie, Bonnie and Traya follow Mr. Bruton.)

Bruton: I hope you will enjoy your stay in LA. We'll swing by your hotel and then ride over to the studio… It shouldn't take more than about 4 hours…

(Panel 3.)

Bonnie: Four hours?

Bruton: The hotel and studio are only about 4 miles from here. Traffic is that way this time of day.

Cissie: It sounds faster to walk.

(Panel 4. They arrive at the baggage carousel, which is turning with several pieces of luggage on the carousel.)

Bruton: Don't worry, we've got the latest in limo technology onboard.

(Panel 5. Later on, Cissie, Bonnie and Traya are sitting in the back of the limo. Traya is wide-eyed over things.)

Traya: Wow! I can't believe this! Satellite television, videogames, juice bar… they thought of everything!

Bonnie: Yea… that's probably because we're going to be here for a good while…

(Page 6, panel 1. Splash page. Leave room for credits here. Later on, they arrive at the hotel. Our heroes enter the room. Traya is wide-eyed at the elegance of the place. It is lavishly decorated in high fashion, with Louis XIV chairs, a large sofa, and three separate bedrooms. There is also a large television there as well.)

Traya: Man, they spared no expense in this!

Cissie: I can't believe the elegance myself, Traya.

Bonnie: Well, don't get used to it. Remember we have to go straight to the studio.

(Page 7, panel 1. Go back to the Hollywood lot where Wendy the Werewolf Slayer is being filmed. Teri Jewel Jackson is standing in a hallway of a school. Standing next to her is Javier Sanchez. She is dressed as she was before; he is in a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Both of them are holding about 2-3 books and some other items.)

Cap (N): Considerably later….

Director: (from offscreen) And… action!

(Panel 2.)

Teri: Paulo, I'm scared. It's not just a werewolf we're facing now, he has a vampire for an ally!

Javier: I know, Wendy… but we have to try. I've gotten some information about vampires. Max is getting some garlic as we speak.

(Panel 3.)

Teri: (1) I hope this works… because if it doesn't, we're….

Teri: (2) Damn.

Director (From off panel): CUT!

(Panel 4. The director comes onto the stage. She is dressed in a black woman's business suit. She is of average height, blonde hair, brown eyes, and in her late 20's early 30's.)

Director: Ms. Jackson…

Teri: I'm sorry, I just got distracted. Let's try it again.

(Panel 5. The director exits.)

Director: Right. Places everyone!

(Page 8, panel 1. Cissie, Traya and Bonnie enter. We see them standing offstage.)

Traya: Wow! It's really her!

Cissie: Traya, Ssh!

Director: Hold it! Who invited them in here!?

(Panel 2. Bonnie steps forward.)

Bonnie: Sorry about that, she's kinda new to this.

Director: Look, we're behind schedule already. Can you wait offstage?

Cissie: Now problem.

(Panel 3. The three of them go away from the stage.)

Director: If it's not one thing, it's another. Places everyone!

(Panel 4. The action resumes.)

Cap (N): Shortly thereafter…

Teri: Paulo, I'm scared. It's not just a werewolf we're facing now, he has a vampire for an ally!

Javier: I know, Wendy… but we have to try. I've gotten some information about vampires. Max is getting some garlic as we speak.

(Panel 5.)

Teri: I hope this works… because if it doesn't, we're sunk.

Javier: Everything should work.

(Page 9, panel 1. Suddenly a man in a werewolf costume jumps out of nowhere, menacing Teri and Javier.)

Werewolf: GRAGH!

Teri: Oh no!

(Panel 2. Teri grabs a silver-tone dagger from her purse.)

Teri: I'm not afraid of you, Lupido…. You've hunted your last victim!

Lupido (werewolf): *SNARL* You're the one who's going down, Wendy!

(Panel 3. Lupido tries to slash Teri with his claws, but misses. Teri dodges his blow. Panel 4. Teri then connects with a foot to Lupido's chest. Meanwhile, Javier manages to strike Lupido's legs, knocking Lupido down.)

SFX: WHACK!

(Panel 5. Teri strikes Lupido with the dagger. Blood spurts out.)

Teri: Look on the bright side - at least you won't have to worry about fleas anymore.

Lupido: AAAARRRROOOOO!

(Panel 6. Teri removes the dagger from Lupido.)

Teri: I don't think he's going to be hunting anyone anymore.

Javier: Great job, Wendy.

(Page 10, panel 1. Teri and Javier pull back from Lupido.)

Director: Cut and print! All right, that's a wrap for this episode.

(Panel 2. Lupido then stands up.)

Lupido: Man, I think I got some of this fake blood on my shirt. I hope it washes out.

Teri: Yea, it does. I get it on my clothing all the time.

(Panel 3. Teri and Javier walk off the set to the side, where Cissie, Traya and Bonnie are waiting.)

Teri: Ah, you must be Cissie King-Jones.

Cissie: Yea. I must say I'm kinda excited about this. I've never really done any acting before, other than that school play…

(Panel 4.)

Javier: Well, don't worry. Acting is easy. Being the best at it is hard.

Cissie: Right.

(Panel 5. Teri Jewel makes welcoming gestures.)

Teri: Well, welcome to the job. Please, call me TJ.

(Page 11, panel 1. Teri leads Bonnie, Cissie and Traya off down a hallway.)

Teri: Well, let me give you the 10-cent tour of the place.

Cissie: All right.

(Panel 2. They continue to walk down the hallway, passing by some doors.)

Teri: This is our dressing room hallway, you'll report here every morning to get into costume and makeup. To the left is Javier's dressing room.

(Panel 3. They arrive at Teri's dressing room. The door is open, and we see inside the room. The place has several racks of clothing, along with the Superboy poster.)

Teri: This is my dressing room, sorry about the mess in there….

Traya: Superboy?

(Panel 4. Teri blushes.)

Teri: Yea… I think he's a hunk. I really wish I could meet him.

Traya: You'll meet him soon enough.

(Panel 5. Teri perks up and gets somewhat nervous.)

Teri: Meet him? What do you mean?

Cissie: (somewhat embarrassed): Well, Superboy and I met at the Olympics, and he's been a fan of yours… when I told him I was going to be on the show, he wanted to come along…

(Panel 6. Teri's excitement and nervousness continues.)

Teri: Meet him? Gosh, I don't know what to do! What should I wear? What kind of makeup does he like?

Cissie: Well, I think you should just be yourself…

Traya: He never misses your show.

(Page 12, panel 1.)

Teri: Wow! I never thought Superboy would like my show! I always thought he'd be too busy to watch television.

Traya: He feels the same way about you.

(Panel 2.)

Teri: Well, I can't wait to meet him!

Cissie: I'm sure he's dying to meet you too.

(Panel 3. They continue onto a room that has Cissie's name on the door.)

Teri: This is your dressing room, Cissie.

Cissie: Nice...

(Panel 4. They enter the room to see it decorated tastefully, with a rack of clothes in Cissie's size and a vanity and mirror. There are also chairs in the place.)

Teri: You'll get to enjoy this place.

Cissie: It's great, TJ.

(Page 13, panel 1. We see Superboy's face in a close-up.)

Cap (N): Later…

Superboy: TERI JEWEL JACKSON LIKES ME!?

(Panel 2. We now see the members of Young Justice standing around their room. The guys are dressed in shirts and blue jeans; the women are dressed in both blouses and skirts or blue jeans. Superboy cannot contain his excitement and elation, and makes grand sweeping gestures to reinforce this. The other members of Young Justice are holding their ears.)

Superboy: THERE IS A GOD!

(Panel 3. Wonder Girl rolls her eyes at Superboy. Impulse is thinking of an image of Superboy's ego as a balloon that is swelling to a great size.)

Wonder Girl: A little louder, K'on, I don't think they heard you in New Jersey.

Superboy: Come on, Cassie, I've waited all my life to meet her! How would you feel if you met your idol?

Cissie: Never the less, we've gotten permission for everyone to come on the set tomorrow. You're all going to be on the set for the next two weeks!

Empress: Oh mon, I can hardly wait!

(Panel 4. Cissie turns towards Empress, smiling mischievously.)

Cissie: I sense something juicy here - spill it, Anita.

Empress: (somewhat embarrassed) Well, there's her co-star there, Javier Sanchez… he's really cute.

Traya: You mean the one with dark skin and the well-chiseled features?

(Panel 5.)

Empress: (smiling) Ooh, yea mon…

Traya: Well, you'll met him tomorrow, Anita.

Impulse: Kewl! Drooling in stereo.

(Page 14, panel 1. Nobody is amused by Impulse's remark. The mood turns from happiness to one of being upset.)

Cissie: Bart, nobody asked you.

Impulse: (Taken aback): Erm… sorry, gang.

(Panel 2.)

Superboy: Man, I don't know what to wear. What does she like in a guy?

Traya: Here we go again.

(Panel 3.)

Cissie: Just be yourself, K'on. She's going to be just as nervous as you are.

Superboy: Erm… right.

(Panel 4.)

Superboy: Man I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait

I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!

Wonder Girl: You're going to have to, hormone boy.

(Page 15, panel 1. The next day, we see Teri Jewel Jackson sitting nervously in a chair in her dressing room. She has a smock over her clothing. Nearby, the makeup Artist is busy working on her.)

Cap (N): That morning…

Teri: Man, I can't believe this. I'm finally getting to meet Superboy!

Artist: You've been talking about it nonstop, TJ.

(Panel 2. The makeup Artist continues to work on Teri Jewel.)

Teri: I know, I know, but I can't stop myself. I've wanted to meet him ever since I first saw him.

(Panel 3. The Artist removes the smock from Teri, revealing that Teri is wearing a low-cut blouse and a short miniskirt.)

Artist: That should get him drooling.

Teri: Uh… right.

(Panel 4. Teri stands, and goes out to the hallway. She starts getting nervous.)

Teri: Oh, I can't wait!

(Panel 5. She enters the studio area, where she meets Cissie, Traya, and Young Justice.)

Cissie: Well, she's here now. Go get her, Sb!

(Panel 6. Superboy is pushed forward as he and Teri Jewel lock eyes. The two of them are struck deeply by each other.)

Superboy: Oh... I…

Teri: Uh…

(Page 16, panel 1. Teri and Superboy stand opposite each other, staring into each other's eyes.)

Cissie: I must say I never thought I'd see the day when Superboy would be at a loss for words.

Wonder Girl: Lovely.

(Panel 2. Impulse studies the two of them.)

Impulse: I think we've lost both of them.

Empress: Love is like that, mon.

(Panel 3. The director and Javier enter. The director is waving her arms around. )

Director: Come on, people, time is money! Let's get this rehearsal on the road!

(Panel 4. The director claps his hands.)

Director: Teri! Javier! Cissie! We have to get the rehearsal going!

Teri: I'll talk to you later, o.k.?

Superboy: Sure...

(Page 17, panel 1. Empress stares at Javier.)

Empress: Oh, mon…

Cissie: What's wrong, Anita?

(Panel 2.)

Empress: That’s Javier Sanchez… I've had quite a crush on him for awhile now…

Traya: Well, then you should go up to him and say hello.

(Panel 3. Empress gets nervous.)

Empress: Oh, I couldn't do that. I don't think he'd be interested in me.

(Panel 4. Teri and Javier approach the others.)

Teri: Yea, she said she was friends with several teen superheroes. They supposedly met in Sydney.

Javier: I hope she knows Empress. Man, that woman is a real fox!

Director: Come on, people! We have to get rehearsing.

(Panel 5. Cissie and Traya cover their mouths to conceal their smiles. They know what's about to happen.)

Javier: (Turning) Oh - you've got a new friend today. So who is this?

Cissie: This is Anita.

Empress: Oh mon… I can't believe I'm in the same room with Javier Sanchez… I'm a very big fan of yours.

(Panel 6.)

Traya: So you really like Empress, do you Javier?

Javier: Oh yea… I love her hair. I'd recognize it anywhere.

(Page 18, panel 1. The Young Justice members, Cissie and Traya crack a smile.)

Cissie: Really….

Empress: I've seen all of your movies, even Campbell's Campground.

Javier: Wow. I didn't think anyone remembered that one.

(Panel 2.)

Teri: (1) Well, we got to get practicing for the next episode.

Teri: (2) Let's go, loverboy.

Javier: (to Empress) Well, I'd like to see you again sometime.

Empress: So would I, mon….

(Panel 3. The director comes up to Javier, and taps him on the shoulder.)

Director: Javier, I know you like playing the hot stud, but we've got work to do!

Javier: Oh, all right.

(Panel 4. Javier and Teri walk off.)

Javier: Stick around, will you?

Empress: I sure will…

(Panel 5. Javier, Cissie and Teri exit.)

Traya: Looks like someone's in love.

Empress: So what's wrong with that?

(Panel 6. Cissie, Javier and Teri have gathered around the director and Joe. They read the script.)

Cissie: I hope this is a good story.

Teri: It's supposed to involve the school's archery team.

(Page 19, panel 1. Cissie, Javier, and Teri are reading over the script.)

Cissie: Who wrote this? "I'm an archer, not a hunter darnit?"

(Panel 2.)

Teri: Yea… some of the scripts we've been getting of late haven't been great in quality.

Javier: Hence the drop in ratings.

Cissie: Which is where I come in.

(Panel 3.)

Teri: Yes. I know the plot seems a little silly - Werewolves trying to stop the US archery team - but when you've had a show running for as long as we have, the writers have trouble finding new ways to do the same old thing.

(Panel 4.)

Cissie: I think I could do a better job writing some of these lines. Let me take a crack at this. Whoever wrote this doesn't seem to know the first thing about archery.

Javier: Yea, our writers often do things on the fly - very little research into the matter.

(Panel 5. Cissie stands, closing her script.)

Cissie: I think we've had enough for today.

(Page 20, panel 1. Cissie is back in her hotel room, where Traya and Bonnie are reading the script.)

Cap (N): Later again…

Bonnie: Pass me the Lysol, this stinks.

Traya: It's got a good concept behind it, but there's a lot to be desired plotwise…

(Panel 2. Traya pulls out a pen and starts scribbling on the script.)

Traya: Let me take a stab at this…

Cissie: Traya! That's my only copy of the script!

(Panel 3. Traya stops, then looks it over.)

Traya: It still needs work. I think I might be able to do this in two to three days.

Cissie: I don't know if they want you doing something like that…

Bonnie: She couldn't do any worse than what this guy wrote.

(Panel 4. Cissie grimaces slightly at Traya.)

Traya: Trust me on this one, Cissie. I did ace English last year.

Cissie: Just don't disappoint me, Traya.

(Panel 5. Traya smiles.)

Traya: Trust me, Cissie.

(Page 21, panel 1. Go into the rafters of the studio, on the catwalk. There is a man standing there, dressed in black and hiding himself. He is making some notes in a palmtop computer.)

Man's thoughts: Man, there are no bouncers around Teri. The second she's alone, we'll swoop in and take her.

(Panel 2. He talks into his jacket.)

Man: I'm here. We got several kids with around her, and some adults. Two bodyguards are nearby. I recommend going with plan 14G.

(Panel 3.)

Man: I know it'll take time. We've got to make time, guys.

(Panel 4. The man goes off.)

Man: Returning to base, over and out.

(Page 22, panel 1. Go back to Teri Jewel, Cissie and Javier. The three of them are reading the script for the first time. The director is with them.)

Cissie: Who wrote this, monkeys?

Teri: Well, script quality hasn't been great of late. The guy they got now is named Hammer, Hamm* or something like that. Frankly, he scares me, wielding those guns.

(Panel 2.)

Director: Just try reading a few lines, all right?

Cissie: O.k....

(Panel 3. Cissie reads the script.)

Cissie: Wendy, what's this about werewolves on the archery team?

Teri: That's what we've heard. They said someone on the archery team was a werewolf.

(Panel 4. Cissie winces as she reads this line.)

Cissie: I'm an archer, not a hunter darnit.

Wendy: I'm not asking you to hunt her down. I need your help tracking her down.

(Panel 5. Back in the shadows, we see the man from the previous page lurking.)

Cissie: I got a bad feeling about this...
