CORPSMAN UP!!
I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and I did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those that gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the fact of eternal loneliness should I fail. I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love. I have cried, pained, and hoped... but most of all I have lived times others were to say are "Best Forgotten". At least someday I will be able to say I was proud of what I was.... A United States Fleet Marine Force Combat Corpsman. I am a suave and debonair global soldier of the seas. I am a bald headed, beady eyed, amphibious monster. I am a professional warrior with a clean body and a dirty mind. I don't rust, bust or collect dust. My tales are told around a million camp fires on a thousand battle fields and as many fighting ships. Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell won't have me. There is no mistake that I am a hard charging, fast talking, straight shooting, fist throwin', low crawling, motivated, dedicated
This is dedicated in the Loving Memory of Doc 09/28/45-04/12/03
My name is Robert W. "Doc" Cooper. I am a former Navy Corpsman. I spent the majority of my time with the FMF. Both 2/5 of the 1st Marine Division, at Pendleton and I spent most of 1966 in Viet Nam with 2/4 of the Third Marine Division. While they couldn't keep me from getting wounded (three times); they did keep me from getting killed. For this I say, "Thank you!!", to all Marines who ever covered a corpsman's ass in combat. I hope I did as well getting my Marines back for help as they did in keeping me alive.I currently live in the Hill Country of Texas about 40 miles NW of Waco, in Clifton. I belong to Clifton Masonic Lodge # 360 A.F. & A. M. and the Waco Bodies of the Scottish Rite. I am a Life Member and Past Post Commander of Robert E. Binford Post 8553 VFW; Life Member of DAV Chapter 215, Whitney, Texas. I am the Charter Commander and Past Chapter Commander Bosque Valley Chapter 4077, Military Order of the Purple Heart.
