Love, Falling In
I searched his eyes for meaning.
Then I fell in.
Falling into the dismal abyss
Of someone's deep dark pupil
Grasping, but finding no handholds
Descent unchecked, I plunge deeper.
Lost my sense of direction
Disoriented and unseeing
I tumble, nerves on edge,
The eye draws me in.
A tiny twinge of fear
No knowledge of where I'm headed
What would I learn from the eye
What would I learn about myself
Further I drop
A strange and new experience
Exciting but dangerous
I have my misgivings.
Which way is up
Which way is down
Gravity insists, but
How hard will I land?
Briefly a thought flashes
And I wonder
Am I not falling
But sinking instead?
No more light--!
Down I go.
