"Parade Anxiety"

Too anxious to sleep, the energy rising within,
I breathe deeply, then methodically I begin,
To prepare my mental checklist, go over every move,
To organize and memorize the rhythm and the groove.

I arrive before dawn,
To rehearse and warm up on the lawn,
My uniform is sharp, metals adorned glisten like the dew,
My drum is polished, sparkling like new.

I stand proud at attention, a feeling I would not trade,
Listening for the Drum Major, to begin the Easter Parade.
The whistle blows as the sweat trickles from my brow,
I will forever cherish the emotions I am experiencing right now.

It means more to me than you know.
'Cause everyday when I come here to post,
It's your words that inspire me the most.
