Robert James Lees
Robert James Lees was a Christian medium from the late 19th century. The term "Christian medium" may sound contradictory to some, but you can't please everybody.
He was the author of several books which were best-sellers in their time. And also was a personal counsellor to Queen Victoria, Gladstone, Disreali, etc. So, he was taken quite seriously and his predictions and so on seemed to be accurate enough that these influential people consulted him often.
His first book, "Through the Mists" is an amazing account given to him by, as he put it, "A fellow human now deceased." It seems that this former mortal (who I'll now just call an "angel") was anxious to return and recount his story about life after death. Since Lees was an open channel, this angel was relieved to be able to find someone that he could pass his story on to.
The main point of the book is that God is a loving God and that the dogmas and fears that are planted in mankind through his religions is not God's way of doing things. That the next life is a multi-layered dimension. That death doesn't automatically slot us into the "black/white" "heaven or hell" plan, but that everyone has a place prepared for them according to what he or she can handle. The angel also says that after we pass into the spiritual realm we continue to learn and, according to how quickly we accept things, we also make progress.
I've read this book and so far I can't find anything in it that contradicts the Bible. It's written in Victorian English so it takes a little getting used to. Once my ear was atuned I became fascinated by the very encouraging tale that the angel shared with Lees.
Many Christians may argue that this is spiritism or whatever, but we merely have to read the many Biblican accounts of humans conversing with angels to see that there aren't only bad spirits, but lots of good ones. Why should God let the Devil corner the market? If He's in control of the universe, then surely Satan is only a counterfeiter. (okay, I'm done preachin')
Lees himself said that the angel would visit him nightly and that if he didn't show-up at a certain time that he, Lees, would get anxious because he really looked forward to hearing more about the other side and what life is like there.
If you're interested in reading this book, it's not in print, but Amazon.com has it listed in the "rare books" section. That's how we found it. There are only a few left.
