My Three Tier Brewery
Pictured above is my 15 gallon 3-tier brewery. A 3-tier design lets gravity drive the flow from the sparge water vessel, to the mash/lauter tun, to the boiling kettle to the fermenter. Each vessel has its own Camp Chef 135K propane burner bolted to the stand. The sparge and mash tanks have large 3 1/4" face dual temperature scale 316 stainless steel thermometers installed. Note the wooden paddle. This is a "crawdad" paddle the marks on the paddle are used to measure water going into the sparge and mash tanks. They are 1 gal increments and was put on by burning them in with a soldering iron.
Mash/Lauter Tun
Pictured above is my Mash/Lauter Tun. The kettle is made of heavy duty 304 stainless steel. Inside the kettle is a stainless steel, shallow (<3/4") false bottom. The boiling kettle is the same 15 gallon size 304 stainless steel kettle as the HLT and the Mash Tun. I don't have a thermometer in the boiling kettle, but I do have a false bottom. I guess it's not necessary to have a false bottom in the boiling kettle but it sure is nice not having to wory so much about filtering the hops and trub.
Also note the rocks. The rocks hold down the false bottom. I also have rocks inthe boiling kettle they not only hold down the false botton but help prevent the dreaded "hot break" boil over.
