This is an older photo. We're together with Maile's Mom
and Dad. David Hawes, her Father, passed away in 2002. He was a retired professor
of Drama, from Indiana University. David was
involved with theater most of his 91 years, but he was also a
published poet, and writer. His favorite subject was the
humor of Kin Hubbard. Betty Hawes has worked with glass
for a number of years. She creates beautiful Tiffany
style lamps and African-style masks. Recently, she has
branched out and is trying her hand at ceramic tile mosaics.
My Dad passed away in 2001. He was 91. And, my Mom passed away last summer at the age of 97. My parents lived together for 61 years. My Dad was
a mechanical engineer. He worked for FMC for a long time
before he "retired" to become an engineering consultant.
When he was a young man of 70, he took up competitive crew.
He rowed his way to several National Master's championships.
My Mom has incredible stamina and enthusiasm. She played tennis all her life. She
travelled. She was an avid bird watcher. Her positive energy and drive
was awe inspiring. I admired my parents and love them dearly.
