Continental General Tires Tire Damage
General Tire Damage
This site has been viewed times.
The following photos are of a Continental General Tire. The tread separated and came apart while driving 70 mph causing $2904.00 in damage to my Mercedes and almost causing a terrible, potentially fatal, accident on the freeway.
As you can see, It obviously still had many miles of good tread left on it when it simply came apart.

Urgent New development: General Tire requested that I send the tire to them so they can inspect it.
They assured me that everything I sent them would be returned to me completely assuring me that if they failed to return the evidence they would have to pay the claim. Well they didn't return it.
I sent the below Tire and Tread to them with the assurance that if it was not returned to me, they would have to pay the claim. They failed to return the tread to me, in effect destroying some of the evidence. Now they also won't pay the claim. This is outrageous!!!! I will never trust my safety or my family's safety to any Continental General Tire product again.
I believe that this is a matter of public safety! Please forward this site to everyone you know.

The General Tire Dealer who originally examined it and suggested that I pursue a claim with General Tires. His exact words, "this tire should not have come apart like this."
Secondly, what prudent and reasonable person would replace a tire if there were a small hole in it and it could be safely patched. If this were the case, it should be illegal in all states to patch a tire at all if the potential results can be fatal. If a tiny hole in a tire can render it unsafe and cause a major accident, then the public should absolutely be made aware of this.
This is a matter of Public Safety. The facts, letters and photos are within this site. Draw your own conclusion.
It is my conclusive, professional opinion based on almost 16 years experience as a police officer of a major city and my experience with General Tires, that they are unsafe and can have fatal results. It is also my opinion that our families and children are much to precious to trust a General Tire.
Additionally, I returned the tire to them at their insistence for examination. I was assured that it would be returned to me. They did not return it to me in the same condition which it was sent to them. They failed to return the separated tread that was included with the tire when I sent it to them.
