Sacred Heart of Jesus

Day Three

Third Promise: "I will console them in all their pains and trials"

Reflection

Our physical lives are at times burdensome. So often we must suffer and groan in agony. As the years of youth slip away, we feel more this gradual approach of disintegration as our body begins to break up. Pain racks so many: disease takes toll of countless sterling character. So many thousand are in the throes of mortal agony even at this moment, men and woman who once enjoyed the bloom of life.

We all need aid and consolation to soothe and encourage us when the path of life becomes littered with trial, physical, mental and spiritual. It is in these difficulties that the Sacred Heart of Jesus promised to be our Companion, Comforter and Consoler.

  • In time of trials and disappointment do you find your solace and comfort in the Sacred Heart of Jesus? Do you immediately go to Your friend, to the One who can best help you and most willing to come to your assistance?

  • Say to the Sacred Heart:
O Most kind Jesus, when thou dist hang upon the Cross
and filled with anguish, pain and suffering,
it did not suffice them to put thee to so cruel a death,
    but with scorn and reproaches
they tried to defame your life and teaching.

These are the attendants at your deathbed!
One servant with a draught of gall,
another with lance -thrust, another with blasphemies,
There stood around and wagged their hand and mocked thee!
But thou dist make no move to descend
but persevere unto death, and in the excess of your charity
dist pray for them to thy Father, saying
"Forgive them, for they know not what they do"
Teach me now, O Jesus to suffer pain and anguish for thy Love. Amen

Condensed from the"Novena of the Sacred Heart" Catholic Trade Center, Manila,

  • "The all powerful love of my Heart will grant, to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months or nine consecutive Fridays or nine successive days and remember me during my Feast Day, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments. They shall find in my heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death. " is one of the most powerful promise he made to Saint Margaret Mary. Probably no other promise has brought more lusters to the First Friday devotion than to know, that not only in life, but also especially in the brink of eternity will the Sacred Heart watch over and protect you.
