Day Four

Fourth Promise: "I will be their assured refuge in life and especially in death."

Reflection

  • Does the thought of death arouse any stirring convocation for you ? Do those scriptural words, "think of thy end, and thou shall never sin” carry any significance for you?
  • Do those words written by Dante over the portal of hell: "Abandon hope all you who enter here", fill you with terror, a holy fear of the flight of those who die in mortal sins.

Death is considered a fact of nature, the separation of the soul from the body,as in all separation, is terrible. It is not so much we must leave friends and relatives and all near to us. But what does haunt us is the uncertainty of the step into a new and strange world. And if so, if we can have hope that our entrance into eternity is under the protecting hand of the Sacred Heart, then we might well chant with St. Paul when he said " O death where is thy sting, where is thy victory" Of course we must do our part , because we cannot be save without willing our salvation and without taking an active part in this crisis.

  • Say to the Sacred Heart:
    Remember, O Lord,
the words which thou spokes in the Cross:
"Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit." I pray that you receive my soul,
when it must leave my sinful body, into the loving hands of your heart

. O dear Lord Jesus Christ, remember how in the Cross
your blessed heart broke into bitterness of death.
When in my last hour my heart shall break in death, give me, I beseech the,
this grace that you may find in my soul perfect love true contrition, ,
firm faith, and unshakable thrust in thy mercy. AMEN

Condensed from the"Novena of the Sacred Heart" Catholic Trade Center, Manila,

  • "The all powerful love of my Heart will grant, to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months or nine consecutive Fridays or nine successive days and remember me during my Feast Day, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments. They shall find in my heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death. " is one of the most powerful promise he made to Saint Margaret Mary. Probably no other promise has brought more lusters to the First Friday devotion than to know, that not only in life, but also especially in the brink of eternity will the Sacred Heart watch over and protect you.
