Operation
- INTRODUCTION - The students will consist of Care Center residents, Cornerstone Baptist Church attendees, and people from the community surrounding the church.
- TIME AND DURATION OF COURSES - Each computer course is 4 hours total in duration, in two 2-hour sessions on consecutive weeks. Courses are held Tuesdays 7pm-9pm and Saturdays 12:30pm-2:30pm and 3pm-5pm.
- STUDENT RECEIVES - a course book for each course when it starts (we develop this) ... a certificate of completion for each course after they complete the course (we print) ... a transcript of all courses completed by the student (we maintain in database and print when student requests it).
- COURSE BOOKS - We will have an instructor course book and a student course book for each couse. The course books will be used by the students during the course. The course books will stay at the Care Center until the course is completed, then they are given to the students. The course books will be written at a level that the students can understand, and with plenty of introductory material.
- COST OF COURSES - A cost will be assigned to each course, but some grants will be given out for those who need it. The course book is free of charge to all students, and we will have a technical library where the students can use the books while they are in the Computer Center.
- COMPLETING COUSES - A student is expected to attend the entire course time before their record indicates that they have completed the course. A student is also expected to complete an exam out of class after the course is over and then turn it in. The exams will be graded and the student will receive a grade for the course. Aa exam or a course may be retaken by a student. If a student misses the second session of a course, they cannot make it up. They must take the exam at that time or retake the entire course.
- DATABASE RECORDS - A database will be maintained on a computer in the Computer Center. The database will hold records for each student of all the courses they have attempted and completed. The following information will be maintained for each class for the student:class name, grade, date of class, instructor, if incomplete grade, and percentage of class completed. The database will also hold records of all classes that were taught. The following information will be maintained for each class: class name, date of class, instructor, number of students starting class, number of student passing, and number of students getting incomplete grade.
- COMPUTER CENTER MANAGER - This volunteer manages the computer center during general use times. They will answer the phone, do lookups in database, register students for classes, print student certificates and transcripts, and monitor and help computer users. This person is trained on use of the database, telephone use, servicing requests for information, use of printer, use of the computers, location and access to materials, etc.
- COMPUTER EQUIPMENT - Spare computer hardware will be kept on hand in case a system fails during a course.
