James A. Morgan fought in the War Between the States.
The 1860 Census shows James A. Morgan working as a clerk for
James L Logan. His age is slightly inflated; on July 2 1860,
James A. Morgan would have only been 15, not 17. This error can
arise from two obvious possibilities: James Morgan may have lied
about his age to get the job, or the person who answered the
census taker's questions guessed at his age instead of asking
him.
James and Sallie's last child was born in which and James and
Sanora are married on the 1880 census which is why I place the
date of their marriage at that time. It is quite probable that
Sallie Morgan died in childbirth, and that James Morgan married
Sanora quick thereafter to have help raising the children.
Another point that may give insight into some of the difficulties
that Sanora may have faced early in the marriage. The first year
of marriage, she was 21, James was 14 years her elder, and her
oldest step daughter was 12.
James A. Morgan was postmaster in 1907 in Recklaw, TX.
Some people say Sanora's maiden name was Murchison. The only evidence I have been given on this is a census record that shows a girl S.E. Murchison that is approximately Sanora's name. If you follow the family to the next census, you will find that S. does not stand for Sanora.
After Sanora's death, James A. Morgan remarried.

Randolph Cheek was most likely born on the border of Tennessee
and Alabama. He met and married Nancy Eveline Key in Alabama,
then moved to Red River County by 1847. On the 1850 census he is
living near Valentine Cheek, which had led some researchers to
believe him to be the son of Valentine Cheek; however, evidence
indicates that the relationship was more distant.
Bobby Wadsworth wrote:
"I will pass along 'everything' I know... Valentine Cheek
[of Red River Co., TX] had at least three brothers and one sister
according to the census records. Only the brothers are mentioned
in the notes I have, which were complied by a descendent (Mattie
Davis Lucas) in the 1920s. Per Valentine's daughter Mary
(1820-1901), the two oldest brothers died in the War of 1812 at
the Battle of the 'Cane Breaks' just before the Battle of New
Orleans. . . Randolph Cheek [the 2nd, Brother of Valentine] went
to Cal. at the time of the gold rush in 1849 and was not heard
from afterwards. On his way, he stopped in Texas to visit his
brother Valentine C.
I just found this in the notes: "Valentine Cheek [of Red
River Co] and bro. Randolph, 2nd [who went to Cal.] had a cousin
named Randolph who taught school and died in 1866 in Red River
Co. His wife was named Evaline [sic]- Children were Washington,
who was killed in the Civil War, Margaret, "Durbe,"
Dick, Bettie, Henry." Another reference is found in Mattie's
notes for Andrew Jack McGill (1846-1926), a nephew to Valentine
Cheek: "His first school was taught by Randall (Randolph)
Cheek. He was a preacher as well as a teacher. The thing longest
remebered as having been learned at this school was the 'Art of
chewing tobacco' by Wes [Washington] Cheek, son of the teacher.
These notes were originally compiled by Mattie Davis Lucas but
were later transcribed (at least twice) by her daughter. This
explains why Randolph is listed as both a brother and a cousin.
Mattie [Davis Lucas] said that they were cousins, but it seems
more likely that the relationship was uncle-nephew considering
their ages. Based on Mrs. Lucas' info, Valentine had only three
brothers, two of whom were said to have died in the War of 1812
(circa 1814). Ergo, neither could be your Randolph's father
(or grandfather, for that matter). The only other
"known" brother was Randolph, who was born likely
between 1790/1800 and moved to California (by way of Red River
Co., TX) in 1849.
An enumeration of Randle Cheek on the 1800 US census of Lancaster
Co., SC, matches quite well with the family of Randolph Cheek
(Valentine's father, who also was known as Randle). That
census shows four sons and one daughter in the household.
Beyond that, I have not found any evidence to support Mrs. Lucas'
information. Admittedly, I have not done a great deal of
looking.
Other information may be found in the records of Lancaster Co.,
SC, or Giles Co., TN (where Randle Cheek, [Sr] died in
1815. My access to these records is limited, but you may
have better sources. Other than that, I am at a dead end

John Key is buried in Drummond Cemetery in Sipsey, AL (History
of Walker County by Dombhart, 1937 pg 135)
John Key, born in Amherst County, Virginia, in 1765, was one of Walker County's earliest settlers. (Alabama) He lived in Amherst County until 1797 or later, and then moved to North Carolina, from which state he came to Alabama. Some believe that he reached Walker County not later than 1816, but the first authentic record is a government land entry made in Section 10, Township 15, Range 8, on December 25, 1824. This entry was on Lost Creek, north of Oakman. He was one of the pioneers of the Methodist Church in Walker County, and the earliest record of that church in the county is a report of a quarterly conference held at his home on Lost Creek on June 14, 1833. Mr. Key spent his entire life on the farm. He died in 1861, at the age of ninety-six, and is buried near Sipsey.
Dock Clifton Key, who was born in Walker County about 1825. He was a farmer until the outbreak of the Civil War, when he enlisted in Company L, Twenty-eighth Alabama Infantry, under Captain Musgrove, and died in Tennessee in 1865, while still in the service.

Notes All I have on this family comes from the 1850 census and
conjecture. This is almost certainly our James A. Morgan born in
1845. The family disappears in 1860, and I find James Morgan
living alone as a clerk (with a false age-- see notes on James A
Morgan). My theory is that William and Elizabeth died and that
the two younger children either died also or (more likely) were
sent to live with relatives. It is significant to note that James
A. Morgan named one daughter Nancy and another Elizabeth.
