article: About Jinzo and Traps. Enjoy.
Very few people use traps, and two weeks ago, i could
not understand why. The one card that (effectively)
negated traps was a Secret Rare, yet most people
limited themselves to 5-8 traps per deck. Now, with
Jinzo being exclusive to Booster Pack Tins, Trap Cards
have a lot more to fear.
Jinzo reads: As long as this cards remains face-up on
the field, negate the effects of all trap cards. In
addition, no traps can be activated as long as this
card remains face up on the field.
Since Jinzo's effect is a Multi-Trigger Effect, or
"Spell Speed 2" Trap Hole cannot block it. The two
trap cards that can negate Jinzo's summoning are Horn
of Heaven and Solemn Judgment, which are hard to get
Ultra Rares from the unprinted Metal Raiders set.
Also, these two cards are extremely unplayable, even
in side decks. And with Jinzo having a powerful 2400
attack, only 4 other single-tribute monsters can
destroy him in battle (and two die in the process!)
The obvious way to get him off the field is, of
course, Monster Removal. There are loads of cards that
can destroy Jinzo, but here are a few that I would
recommend:
Exiled Force
Raigeki
Dark Hole
Newdoria
Fissure
and some combos would work well too. Personally, I
myself don't like using combos as they tend to be
unreliable... but here they are anyways:
Change of Heart/Snatch Steal/Creature Swap + 1 Tribute
Monster in your hand
Book of Moon + Nobleman of Crossout/Sasuke
Samurai/Trap Card like Raigeki Break that destroys
cards
However, Jinzo can be used to your advantage as well.
Generally, people who use Jinzo have Beatdown decks
(myself included) and are indefinitely on the
offensive. This makes this type of deck weak to traps
such as Mirror Force and Magic Cylinder, commonly used
trigger-traps. However, Jinzo can stop a Mirror Force
wiping out your fleet of monsters, and can also
prevent your opponent from returning that 6300 from
your pumped up Goblin Attack Force equipped with UWS.
Altogether, Jinzo is a staple in beatdown decks by
far.
But what about other decks?
He would not fit into stall decks, clown control
decks, or deck destruction decks because many models
of these decks rely on the Continuous Trap Gravity
Bind. Jinzo would prevent these traps from working. So
why do I think that Gravity Bind and Jinzo make a
great team?
Simple. Because while you were building up your
defenses and filling your monster zones, SO WAS YOUR
OPPONENT! So a well timed raigeki, or dark hole then a
recursion card(which will be the topic of my next
article) will put you in the offense, especially if
you have more than one recursion cards.
Enough about Jinzo. Time for traps.
There are two different kinds of traps: trigger and
non-trigger. Personally, I think that non-trigger
traps are better. Here is a list of commonly used
trigger and nontrigger traps.
Trigger:
Mirror Force
Magic Cylinder
Torrential Tribute
Drop Off
Trap Hole
Non-Trigger:
Waboku
Ring of Destruction
Call of the Haunted
Ceasefire
Imperial Order
Time Seal
Non trigger traps are more versatile, or speedier. In
recent weeks, the game of Duel Monsters has become
more and more about speed. Non-trigger traps do not
need an certain event to occur for you to activate
them, which means you can activate them at any time
during your turn and whenever your opponent does
anything on their turn.
Trigger Traps require your opponent to perform a
specific action such as Attack, Draw a card, or summon
a monster. This makes these cards prone to S/T
removal.
If your opponent uses a spell card like Harpie's
Feather Duster, Heavy Storm, or Mystical Space
Typhoon, your pretty Mirror Force and Magic Cylinder
you spent $50 each on go into your graveyard, almost
completely worthless. But, when S/T removal occurs on
a waboku/Ring, guess what? You can chain.
Waboku is no where near as powerful as Mirror Force or
Magic Cylinder, nor as pretty looking. But shiny cards
can't do much good except look shiny when they are
discarded by MST. Waboku does a lot of good. I like
waboku a lot better and am taking out my Cylinder for
a Call of the Haunted as soon as possible.
I hope this article helps everyone who reads it.
