Article on deck building
By: Zero12
I have noticed many people (n00bs) have
been building
poor decks and/or not having a clue how to use them
(rich kids buy 3 Jinzos and use them all, or summon
Fissure in attack mode)
Well i'm sick of it. The experts actually want a
challenge, so for all you deck-troubled deckbuilders,
here is an original guide made for and by Duelists
Step 1: Choose a Theme
Every deck has a theme. Some of the most popular
themes include Control, which stops your opponent from
doing a certain thing that stops you from winning,
Beatdown, which i use, is about summoning L4 and below
monsters to use speed to your advantage, and Warrior,
which focuses on using different effects that support
Warrior, which is probably one of the fastest deck
types.
Step 2: Teh Staplez
Not every deck can afford "teh 7 Staplez," otherwise
known as the "Sexy Seven," but if you have even 1, put
it in your deck.
Teh 7 Staplez are:
Raigeki
Harpie's Feather Duster
Dark Hole
Heavy Storm
Change of Heart
Monster Reborn
Pot of Greed
There are several other cards that, although are not
staples, should also be considered very much in
building a deck.
Imperial Order
Call of the Haunted
Snatch Steal
Creature Swap
Premature Burial
Goblin Attack Force
Marauding Captain
Graceful Charity
Waboku
Ring of Destruction
Mirror Force
Ceasefire
Step 3: Choose Your Cards
Next take out all cards that relate to your theme from
your pile of cards. Put the non-effect monster cards
into order from Highest ATK to Lowest ATK. Next, my
favorite way of choosing a card or not is this:
Calculating. Add the monster's ATK and DEF, then
divide by it's Level. High Levels should be added.
Next, add in effect monsters that you consider good.
Finally, put in all the Spells and Traps that you
think will help your deck the most.
Step 4: Trimming the Size
Next, you will want to reduce deck size to 40-42. As
Edo himself put it, " Every card you have over forty
is one more turn until you get the card you need!"
However, deck size depends on the deck that you are
making. For example, a Stall Deck or deck destruction
should have over 45 cards.
Step 5: Play testing.
Play test your deck a lot. If you have a brother or
sister (sisters are rare, girls should get into yugioh
too! I only know two girls who play yugioh) that
duels, duel them with your new deck. Take out cards
that remain in your hand and never seem to help and
add in cards that you think might work a bit better.
Then play test again.
