Ankh-Morpork

Population: 1 000 000 at last count, including the suburbs.

Mottoes: MERVS IN PECTVM ET IN AQVAM
And QVANTI CANICVLA ILLE IN FENESTRA

The oldest city on the Disc. Most of it's inhabitants claim it is built on loam, the truth being Ankh-Morpork is built on Ankh-Morpork. After each raising or what have you, the damaged part of the city was rebuilt on it's own ashes. Thus there are many things underneath the average Morpokian street long forgotten. Only recently found were sewers dating back to the days of the Kings.

The city consists of two parts, Ankh and Morpork, each being on opposite sides of the River Ankh. The city of Ankh lies to the Turnwise bank, Morpork to the Widdershins.
The river itself, over the years has become so polluted as to be the only river in above freezing conditions that you could chew (Although if you should, it is not advised that you swallow). It flows from the Ramtop mountains and by the time it reaches the city is heavily silt laden, and after it has flowed (It moves faster than the land around it) through the city the Watch can trace a bodies outline on it. Despite all logic, there are fish surviving in the Ankh, although the fact that they explode on contact with fresh air (if Morpork's air could be called that) they explode suggests the effects of a magical leak from Unseen University.

The city is surrounded by a circular wall, although the populous has now spilled beyond these walls and outer suburbs are beginning to sprout up.

Throughout it's history, Ankh-Morpork has been invaded a vast number of times. Somehow though, the invaders always soon found themselves pennyless, horseless and confused. Soon enough, they found jobs and were mingled into the complex workings of the city.

It is commonly claimed that Ankh-Morpork is the Discs largest Dwarf colony, with over 75 000 dwarfs from all over the Disc living there. Strangely despite their numbers, they have not dented the cities rat population. Most Dwarfs that come to Ankh-Morpork send money home to their parents, along with a letter saying "Come down and bring the Ketchup".

Unseen University

Motto: NVNC ID VIDES, NVNC NE VIDES

Unseen University is the Disc's first college of magic. Before going into describing the grounds, I will first go into a little about the Wizards themselves. For information on the nature of Disc magic, refer to the Disc page

Grounds

The Tower of Art is believed to be the oldest building on the Disc. It is definitely the tallest in Ankh-Morpork. It is presumed to have been the original University, but is now disused. It stands, but apparently only just, at 800 feet. It does not have a single window and at it's peak are numerous turrets. If one were to count the steps to the top (all else inside has long since rotted away), they would number 8 888.

The Librarian

The Librarian of Unseen University was the victim of a magical accident in The Light Fantastic that left him as an orang-utan. The strange thing is that no-one seems to remember what he was like before hand. There are rumours that he is, in fact, one Dr.Horace Worblehat, Bachelor of Thaumatology, DM. No-one repeats these rumours in his presence though.
The librarian has resisted, often violently, any attempts to return him to his original state. He seems to be very happy in this form, the prehensile feet being a great aid to his duties. He is considered a very useful member of the University staff, only ever losing his temper if someone breaks Library rules, is disrespectful to books, or calls him a monkey.

So far, the Librarian has become an honorary Watch member and has taken to playing the University organ. He is often heard blaring out various tunes that can be heard in the outer suburbs.
