This is, in my opinion, Kidman's masterpiece. She has long been one of the most talented and underrated actors around, but this movie showcases her highly complex and fascinating acting ability. Her character never ring false, we absolutely believe in every move she makes. But the true test of her talent comes during the scenes where her character, Gillian, is possessed by the ghost of her old lover Jimmy.

The amazing acting of Kidman is likely to be passed over, because she does such a fine job we forget that it really is an actress. All we see is a woman who is literally inhabited by a demon lover. The rest of the movie is excellent as well, but it is clearly Kidman who shines throughout this well-told tale.
