So, you're all thinking, "Wait a minute. Who does this girl think she's fooling?" Quite simply, no one. Kevin Kline is not a voice actor. But he is, IMHO, the best screen actor in the business.

As I type this, I've only seen four of his movies, two of which are animated. But, his versatility coupled with the fact that he is so amazingly energetic, humorous, and even insane in both physical and verbal senses made him an instant favorite. Okay, maybe not so instant. Maybe it took me over a year to warm up to him. But as soon as I saw the commercials on Fox Family for A Fish Called Wanda I had an epiphany and realized his most awesome skills.

I believe it was Kat who once described Mr. Kline as a chameleon. And that's what he is. A bloody chameleon.
In each of the movies he is in and, indeed, each of the characters he plays, he looks entirely different. Down to posture and even his mannerisms. From what I've seen of Mr. Kline, he is better at melting into a part than almost any other screen actor in the business. While I adore Michael Palin, I found myself half expecting Ken to break into a stunning rendition of the Lumberjack Song or wondering when Sir Galahad lost his stutter. I never had that problem with him and found the immense differences in Otto and Dave's appearances eerie. Granted, there were five years that elapsed between the two films, but he resembled Robin Williams in the more recent movie for goodness sake!

"So, what has he been in?" you ask. Well, I've seen him, as I said, in Wanda, where he played Otto West, as Dave Kovic and President Bill Mitchell (Mitchell...Mitchell. Keep your eye on the sandwich...) in Dave, and, of course, as Phoebus in HoND and TRtED's Tulio. I plan to see Fierce Creatures (in which he plays both Vince and Rod McCain) and Wild Wild West (Artemus Gordon and Ulysses S. Grant) soon. Other movies he has been in include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, In & Out, The Pirates of Penzance, Silverado, Sophie's Choice, and many others. You can see the entire list over at Internet Movie Database.

In any case, I shall end with this: If Robin can forgive a screen actor for taking not one but two voicing jobs enough to give him a page, he's got to be fantastic. So go rent either Dave or A Fish Called Wanda now.

Kevin Kline won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for stealing the show and running away with it in A Fish Called Wanda.
