Michael Palin

The Nice Python

I loved him as Galahad in The Holy Grail, I adored him as Ken in A Fish Called Wanda, but it wasn’t until I saw “And Now for Something Completely Different” that he was inducted into the few, the proud, the non-voice actors that I obsess over.

While he’s certainly no voice actor, I wouldn’t call him a screen actor, either (I now consider those to be people who primarily star in big ticket movies and/or prime time television shows). So I don’t feel quite so bad about being utterly obsessed with him. And he changes his voice quite frequently, so he could be a VA…

Alright, alright. I’ll quit trying to rationalize my betrayal.

Sir Galahad the Adorable

Known as the “Nice Python”, Mr. Palin is also the Python with the largest fan base among geeky girls at PHS who refer to themselves as That One Superhero Team. Which is a title he should be quite proud of. He has a starring role in every one of my favorite sketches, and Galahad’s only competition for the position of My Favorite Kuh-Nig-It is Sir Robin (coincidence? I think not). Whether it be a stuttering pawn in everyone else’s chess game, an obnoxious game show host, the 127th Upper Class Twit of the Year, or a shrill voiced Knight of Ni, a Michael Palin character is most assuredly delightfully kooky.

How come it’s always the actors/things you like the most that are the hardest to write about? I’ll stick another picture in here to make it seem longer.

Poor Kenny! (May I call you 'Kenny'?)

[starts humming the Lumberjack Song and twiddling her thumbs]

A ha! So, you want to know why Michael Palin is so much more awesome than the other Pythons! (Just humor me, alright.)
Well, I love ‘em all. But, quite simply, John Cleese gets waaaaay too much attention. Terry Gilliam, while doing some purty groovy animations, didn’t really have any particularly memorable characters, and he still gets too much attention. Terry Jones deserves more, but Bedevere was too irritating for me to ever be a huge fan of his. Graham Chapman didn’t make nearly as smooth transitions between characters. And finally, Eric Idle is just a skosh less… He’s not quite as… Oh, heck. He was in 102 Dalmatians. And Michael Palin was in A Fish Called Wanda. And he likes to travel. And his poor characters are always getting taken advantage of. And he has the same initials as the show. So there. Michael Palin is the most awesomest Python. :-P

Gesture tells me that he’s hers and I’d better keep my hands off of him.

Here's an interesting quote. "If all the work I'd ever done was going to be destroyed ... I'd rather save the 'Fish Slapping Dance'." Hmmm... That's...interesting.

Well, now I’m entirely out of things to say.

::sigh::

Thanks to Whizzo Online and Monty Python.net for the pictures.
