Reckless -- Episode One

A young surgeon, Owen (Robson Green), lays siege to a glamorous older woman, Anna (Francesca Annis). At first she spurns his advances. Love seems to be winning when an unexpected complication arises: she is the wife of his tyrannical and vindictive boss, Richard (Michael Kitchen). But romance stays on track through trysts, treachery and more trouble than the young doctor ever bargained for. Episode One--Owen applies for a surgeon's job and must be evaluated by a management consultant who he claims is the sexiest woman he has ever met. Her verdict: thumbs down. He gets the job anyway and soon discovers that she is his boss' wife. With a helpful push or two, fate intervenes to bring them together.

"Reckless, The Sequel"

Just when it seemed life had settled down for the desperate lovers played by Robson Green, Francesca Annis and Michael Kitchen, their high-tension triangle swerves into new realms of craziness on "Reckless, The Sequel."

Picking up where last season's series "Reckless" left off, this two-hour sequel shows just what happens after handsome young Dr. Owen Springer (Green) absconds with bewitching middle-aged executive Anna Fairley (Annis), wife of Owen's supercilious boss, Dr. Richard Crane (Kitchen).

In "Reckless, The Sequel," a year has passed. Owen and Anna are living blissfully together and Anna has divorced Richard. She and Owen make an impetuous decision to marry - at the end of the week. At a medical meeting in Iceland, Richard gets wind of the secret nuptials and moves heaven and earth to get back to Manchester, England, to stop the ceremony.

The fact is, Richard has never stopped loving Anna, despite fathering a child by his estranged mistress, the woman who provided the pretext for Owen's initial assignation with Anna.

Critics called "Reckless" "a wickedly sexy romantic comedy" (Chicago Sun-Times), "a deliciously tangled story of passion, infidelity and civilized revenge" (New York Times), and "mighty fine television. … Don't say 'they don't make them like this anymore,' because they just did" (Washington Post).

Millions in the United States and Britain were so wrapped up in the amours of Owen, Anna and Richard that a sequel was imperative. In "Reckless, The Sequel," they come together again, building up to the climactic wedding that Owen and Anna feel will seal their happiness - and Richard is convinced will doom Anna to disappointment and eventual abandonment.

Adding to the complications are familiar faces from last season, including Owen's spry alcoholic father, Arnold (David Bradley); Owen's dissolute doctor pals, John (Conor Mullen) and the oddly inept Danny (Julian Rhind-Tutt); and Anna's endearing Alzheimer's-afflicted mom, Myrtle (Margery Mason).

"Reckless, The Sequel" also introduces new characters, in town for the ceremony, including Anna's lovelorn yuppie sister, Barbara (Anna Patrick) and Richard's parents, Robert and Joyce (Geoffrey Palmer and Pauline Yates), who despise Richard as much as Anna does and gladly accept her invitation to her wedding - while staying with Richard.

Added to the mix is Alison (Carol Starks), Owen's previous girlfriend, whom the scheming Richard hires at the hospital, hoping that her proximity to her old flame will ignite sparks - and perhaps fireworks when Anna finds out.

"Reckless, The Sequel" is written by Paul Abbott, whose credits include the original "Reckless," the recent MYSTERY! miniseries "Touching Evil" and several episodes of the original "Cracker" series.
