Stories and other
Hello, if you have an interesting story about a Lovell family member please submit it to my email address.
Here's a story about my father: Steve Lovell all of my dad's life he has been prone to accidents! When he was a child he fell out of a moving car, (which I also did) as a teenager out with his friends, had a car accident in which his good friend Thigpen, had his neck slashed open, and died. Dad was coming home from the hospital when I was born, some poor guy was leaving for the Veitnam war, and was drinking and driving, dad was on his Harley and got hit head on, pushed into a brickwall, dad was in bad shape, and in a coma for about three days, the doctor told him if had not had the Flighter pilot helmet on which his brother gave him, he would have died. (dad felt sorry for the poor guy going to Nam, so he never sued or even thought about it) He was working for GE and something caught on fire, dad wasn't stupid he ran as fast as he could to get away from the fire, his best friend in the world, James Moody was on fire, my dad ran back to help and probably save James' life. My dad was a daring young man, riding his Harley down the road standing up on the seat with his arms spread, (visions as a kid I will never forget) he also would lay back going down the road, as I kid I thought he was Evil Kanevil! (now that I'm older, what were you thinking!) He and my mom were riding there Harley and hit a pothole the Harley flipped my mom flew off breaking her arm, my dad held on and flipped with the bike breaking his back! After working for GE dad went to work for the largest ship building company on the east coast, Newport News Shipbuilding where he has now worked for 20 plus years, well dad hurt his neck well needless to say he now has metal in his spine, he wore a halo for about 8 months! Then the summer of 2001 my "George of the Jungle" dad decides he needs to trim branches off the trees in the his yard, well he waits for his wife to come home and hold the latter for him, dad cuts the last branch, well the branch is falling and hits another branch that knocks him off his balance (he's about 40ft. in the air) split second decisions: he decides to jump, knowing about his neck, if he falls back he knows he's dead.
He jumps forward to the ground, and lands on his feet.
No broken bones, but his nerve in his spine is smashed, and he was in so much pain he thought oh boy, I'm in trouble! He could move his feet and his arms, so the doctor felt safe but could not believe he didn't have any broken bones! Well now all my dads friends call him Tarzan, Dad, Tarzan never fell out of trees! So my brother and I started calling him "George of the Jungle" My dad is still recovering from his surgery to repair the nerve in his spine, his muscle is gone, from not being able to move, so he's working on it! Dad I don't know what angel is looking out for you but you are a lucky man! and I am lucky too!! I love you!
