John Cragin (ca.1634 - 1708)
The Cragin family originated in the south of Scotland, where John was born ca. 1634. He was around the age of 16 when he was pressed into the service of Charles I, who was defeated by Cromwell in the battle of Dunbar 5 September 1650. At this battle John was captured and, as a prisoner of war with 270 other prisoners, sent to America in 1652 aboard the John and Sarah. The ship arrived at Charlestown, Massachusetts, where the prisoners were sold into indentured servitude to defray the expenses of the trip. Tradition states that John contracted small pox while on board and was to be thrown overboard. An Englishwoman named Sarah Dawes prevented this, nursed John back to health, and latter married him 4 November 1661. John settled at Woburn, Massachusetts, where he died 27 January 1708. Sarah died 23 December 1723.

John Cragin (1577 – 1703/4)
John was born in Woburn 19 September 1677. He married 13 April 1700 to Deborah Skelton, daughter of Joseph Skelton and Deborah Howe. She was born in Dedham, Massachusetts 2 December 1676. John died in Woburn 26 January 1702/3, leaving his family to the guardianship of a Mr. Barker.
Children:
- John (twin 1), born in Woburn 25 March 1701. He married ca. 1727 to Judith Barker, daughter of William and Dorothy Barker. She was born in Concord, Massachusetts, 7 January 1701 and died in Acton, Massachusetts 26 December 1762. After Dorothy’s death, he removed to Temple, New Hampshire (ca. 1769). He lived there with his son John until his death 28 January 1794.

- John, born in Acton 8 January 1728/9. He married first 27 September 1755 to Sarah Barrett. She was born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, ca. 1730. Sarah died in Temple, New Hampshire, 30 May 1771. John married second ca. 1780 to Sarah Spaulding. She was born in Townsend, Massachusetts, and died in Temple, New Hampshire, 26 August 1833. John died in Temple 16 May 1797.
- Judith, born in Acton 17 June 1730. She married ----- Searl. Judith died in Acton 16 November 1752.
- Mary, born in Acton 21 January 1732/3. She married 12 April 1761 to Elliot Powers. She died in Acton 20 March 1769.
- Joseph, born in Acton 28 June 1735. He married ca. 1761in Littleton, Massachusetts, to Amy Hastings. Amy was born in Littleton in 1742. She died 16 August 1826. Joseph died at Winslow, Maine, 8 June 1826.
- Dorothy, born in Acton 3 January 1738. She married 5 May 1763 to Joseph Cleaveland. Joseph was born in Acton ca. 1731, and died 1806. Dorothy died at Bloomfield, Maine, 21 November 1813.
- Benjamin, born in Acton 8 July 1740. He married 2 May 1766 to Mercy Robbins of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Mercy died at Mason Village, New Hampshire, 20 April 1820. Benjamin died at Mason Village 20 April 1816.
- Francis (twin 1), born in Acton 2 March 1742. He married first 9 September 1766 to Elizabeth Law. Elizabeth was born in Acton ca. 1743, and died in Acton ca. 1767. Francis married second 30 March 1773 to Sybil Piper. Sybil was born in Acton 20 February 1750, and died in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, 16 May 1809. Francis married third ca. 1810 to the Widow Barret of New Ipswich, New Hampshire. The Widow Barret was born in Acton ca. 1755 and died in New Ipswich ca. 1840. Francis died at New Ipswich 26 August 1826.
- Anna (twin 2), born in Acton 2 March 1742. She married 28 April 1772 to Joseph Town.
- Timothy, born in Acton 28 September 1745. He died in Acton of Consumption, 1763.
- Anna, born in Woburn 25 March 1701.
- Benjamin, born in Woburn 27 November 1702. He married 13 June 1727 to Experience Aldrich. He removed to Mendon, Massachusetts, and died after 1751.

- Mary, born in Mendon 30 December 1729. She married 5 November 1757 to Moses White.
- Margary, born in Mendon 27 October 1731. Died young.
- Benjamin, born in Mendon 25 September 1733. Died young.
- Deborah, born in Mendon 24 April 1735. She married 2 October 1753 to Benjamin Fish.
- John, born in Mendon 30 April 1737. Died young.
- Samuel, born in Mendon 5 November 1739. He married first 9 December 1762 to Mrs. Hannah Ellis. He married second 23 September 1769 to Mercy Chapin. He died at Uxbridge, Massachusetts, 22 June 1825.
- Amos, born in Mendon 4 January 1741. He married 18 October 1764 to Ruth Staples. Ruth was born in Mendon 18 March 1747 and died in Douglass, Massachusetts, 15 December 1819. Amos was killed in the Battle of Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain, New York. It has been assumed that he was killed when the British retook the fort in 1777.

- Experience, born in Mendon 20 December 1744.
- John, born in Mendon 3 November 1746. He married 27 July 1776 to Keziah Thompson. Keziah was born in Medway, Massachusetts, 9 January 1757, and died at Uxbridge 19 January 1831. John died at Uxbridge 22 July 1831.
- Benjamin, born in Mendon 19 September 1749. Died young.
- Ebenezer, born in Mendon 29 February 1751. Died young.
Anna Cragin (1701 – ? )
Anna was born in Woburn 25 March 1701. She married 19 May 1729 to Samuel Chapin of Mendon, Massachusetts.
