The Cold War; They Protected Our Freedom
Welcome!
To the Cold War; they protected our freedom site. This is the story of my family, the Greniers' and the Arrudas'. Two families together that share a tradition of duty, honor, and service to their country. This website is dedicated to them. Each family member below shows their branch and dates of service, plus significant Cold War or historical events that happened while they were on active duty during the Cold War
From 1946 to 1991, the United States faced a major confrontation with the Soviet Union. The Cold War, as it was known, was a different kind of war, not only fought on the battlefield, as was the case in Korea and Vietnam, but a war fought on political idealogies and differing philosophies. This was a war of espionage, terrorism and the every expanding arms race. The Cold War seemed to be a war with no end in sight, leading down a never ending road to the frightening possibility of nuclear Armaggedon. This site is dedicated to my family's contribution as well as to all those who stood vigilant and served for defense of freedom and liberty......Eugene Grenier
"From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of central and eastern Europe -- Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia. All these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere."....Winston Churchill
