The Deer Park High School Marching Falcons band has been chosen to represent ALL of New York State, in the 2008 National Independence Day Parade, being held on July 4, 2008 in Washington, DC. This parade commemorates the 225th Anniversary of the ending of the Revolutionary War. One marching band has been selected from every state and Deer Park has the supreme honor of being chosen to represent NY through their outstanding achievements. The Marching Falcons have been USSBA State Champions for the past 6 years and this is quite an honor to add to our students' accomplishments.

The Deer Park Marching Falcons will be in Washington, D.C. for 4 days, with sightseeing and other cultural activities set up. In addition to the parade and tours, they also will be laying a wreath at Arlington Cemetery. This will be a great educational trip for the students, and a great honor.

In the next week or so, they will have a press release placed in the local Newspapers.

The DPHS Marching Falcons need to raise $21,000.00 to get to DC. (The cost is approximately $600 per student for rooming and transportation.) We are asking YOU, the Alumni of Deer Park, to help us in our quest. We need your support and assistance, as they are doing this all on their own. [Our own Tammy (Ford) Cotrone, Alumni of the Deer Park Class of 1979, is the Director of the DPHS Marching Falcons (band).]

Currently they have done a craft fair, along with other fundraising, and have plans for future fundraisers, however, they need donations. The DPHS Marching Falcons Band are putting the press release in the papers for donations and they are sending out letters to NY state politicians. They are also sending out letters and knocking on local business doors. The Marching Falcons are really working hard to raise this money to go.

This is a HUGE HONOR. One band from each state will be represented, and Deer Park was selected. We are looking for alumni to donate anything they can, (past marching band members and Falcon alumni) to help them get to Washington.
