"Relief"

The coldest of winters
Loneliness splinters
Leaving him broken for dinners
And what he comes home to (is)

An empty fridge
And his friends
Are out to get him
His children weep
They can’t sleep
They just want
Some sort of relief

It’s true that bad times
Can produce good things
True that many nights
They all went to bed wishing

The need for money is great
Barely any food to grace their plates
Fighting too much those days
(that’s) When a miracle soon came their way

Boss comes in one day
Sees an imbalance was made
Make way for the less bills to pay
Money dropped on his desk
Thanks the Lord, he’s been blessed
No longer will he be distressed (over)

An empty fridge
And his friends
Aren’t out to get him (any more)
Children speak
Congratulating
Their father on giving them
More than relief

Little boy sits in the heat
Thinks of the days of defeat
Relaxing and unwinds
He tells me of his time

(when he came home to…)
An empty fridge
And his friends
Were out to get him
Children couldn’t dream
They never could sleep
All they wanted
Was a little relief
